Dr. Le Trung Hieu studied surgical residency at the Organ Transplant Center of Viet Duc Hospital.

Here, he had the opportunity to participate in many liver transplants. Witnessing the recovery of patients after each successful transplant, he was more motivated to pursue a medical career.

In 2013, after a specialized organ transplant conference, fueled by his passion, Hieu decided to apply to work at the 108 Central Military Hospital.

Here, this doctor has the opportunity to study and improve his professional skills at leading medical centers in the region and the world, especially in the field of organ transplantation.

Le Trung Hieu himself once shared that he was lucky to attend liver transplant courses at leading hospitals in France and Korea, always receiving dedicated guidance and instruction from foreign professors.

A memorable memory that Dr. Hieu can never forget in his professional life is August 11, 2016.

That day, Dr. Hieu participated in a liver transplant from a living donor at Asan Hospital in Korea.

Previously, this doctor had only participated in liver transplants from brain-dead donors. In that transplant, for the first time, he witnessed with his own eyes the new technique of liver transplants from living donors performed by Professor Chong Woo Chu - a method that Dr. Hieu had previously only read about in scientific documents.

Born and raised in a family with a 3-generation tradition of working in the medical profession, Major Le Trung Hieu's grandfather and father were both military medical generals who devoted themselves to bringing happiness to many patients. Even more special, all 3 generations are attached to the organ transplant profession.

“My grandfather is Major General, Professor, Doctor, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Le The Trung - former Director of the Military Medical Academy, Honorary President of the Vietnam Organ Transplant Association and also the commander of the first kidney transplant in Vietnam in 1992.

My father is Major General, Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Le Trung Hai - former Deputy Director of the Military Medical Department, President of the Vietnam Liver and Gallbladder Association and a surgeon, participating in the first liver transplant in Vietnam in 2004", Hieu shared.

Continuing that proud tradition, Hieu became a skilled surgeon at the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Department (108 Central Military Hospital) - the place with the largest number of liver transplants in Vietnam. In November 2021, he was honored to participate in the first laparoscopic surgery to remove a right liver transplant from a living donor in Vietnam.

Hieu always worries, strives to be creative, and tirelessly devotes his efforts to the cause of protecting and taking care of the health of soldiers and people.

Recently, the research project "Application of improved cholecystocutaneous anastomosis in laparoscopic surgery to treat liver stones", conducted by him and two colleagues, was awarded First Prize by the Ministry of National Defense - the 22nd Creative Youth Award in the Army.

In addition to his professional work, Hieu is also an enthusiastic and energetic leader of the Youth Union. In his role as Secretary of the Youth Union of the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Department, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the Digestive Surgery Institute - 108 Central Military Hospital, he always has creative ideas, helping the activities and youth movements of the department and the institute develop.

With his advantage in foreign languages, he founded the Foreign Language Club, guiding many members to participate in foreign language Olympic competitions and achieve high results.

Le Trung Hieu is currently a PhD student at the 108 Institute of Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy, with a research topic on liver transplantation from living donors. He is also Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Association and a member of the World and Asia-Pacific Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Association.
