Lao Cai highland doctors have many initiatives and actively innovate union activities.

Over the past two decades, Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Quoc Huy - Deputy Director, Chairman of the Trade Union of Lao Cai General Hospital No. 2 - has had many initiatives to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment for people in the highlands.

Pioneering in deploying many advanced techniques

Born in 1980, after graduating from Thai Nguyen University of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy went to Lao Cai to work in 2004. In any position, he is passionate about learning, researching and coming up with many initiatives to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. Every year, he and his colleagues directly treat thousands of patients, including many critical cases such as traumatic brain injury, multiple trauma, anaphylactic shock, heart failure, stroke...

Not only stopping at conventional treatment, Dr. Huy also pioneered the implementation of many advanced techniques in the field of emergency resuscitation: Thrombolytic treatment in patients with acute cerebral stroke, ventricular drainage and thrombolysis in cerebral hemorrhage, machine-controlled hypothermia, DHF Online blood filtration... These techniques have saved the lives of many patients, enhancing the reputation of the hospital.

The male doctor also actively provides professional support to lower levels, participates in directing lower levels, and provides emergency care outside hospitals. His love for the profession and sense of responsibility have helped him and his colleagues successfully handle many critical cases, bringing confidence to patients and their families.

During his career, Dr. Huy has had many initiatives that have been recognized and widely applied, typically: Ultrasound-guided abdominal drainage technique (2018), improvement of Hi-Lo Evac endotracheal tube for patients on ventilators (2020), improvement of VAC negative pressure suction bandage in the treatment of chronic wounds (2023), or the 2025 initiative to replace anesthetic pumps in lower limb venous insufficiency intervention with endovascular laser.

According to hospital leaders, these improvements both increase treatment efficiency and save costs for patients, especially ethnic minorities.

Innovation in trade union activities

Not only is he good at his profession, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy is also the Chairman of the Trade Union of General Hospital No. 2. In this position, he always plays a key role in political and ideological work and movement organization. Dr. Huy and the Trade Union Executive Committee have had many active activities in caring for and protecting the legitimate rights of more than 740 staff and doctors of the hospital.

The union he is in charge of focuses on innovating its activities: visiting union members when they are sick, sharing difficulties, supporting their studies to improve their qualifications, organizing cultural, artistic and sports activities, and taking care of the children of cadres. He also directs the Women's Union to organize many meaningful activities, contributing to improving spiritual life and creating solidarity in the collective. The work of developing union members and introducing outstanding union members to the Party is carried out regularly, creating a source of young cadres for the unit.

Emulation movements such as "Good worker, creative worker", "Innovation in style and service attitude of medical staff, aiming at patient satisfaction", or "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" have all been effectively implemented by the union, becoming a driving force for the team of staff, doctors and nurses to strive to contribute.

With outstanding contributions, for many consecutive years, Dr. Huy has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, and has been commended by the Ministry of Health, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Lao Cai Department of Health. In particular, in 2025, he was honored by the President with the noble title of "Excellent Physician" and was one of the typical individuals honored at the 1st Conference of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations of Lao Cai province.
