Gender imbalance at birth is a major challenge for Vietnam. The practice of selecting the sex of the fetus is not only illegal, but also reduces population quality, affects the natural balance, and leaves many serious consequences in the future such as: shortage of women, marital difficulties, increasing gender inequality and many other social consequences.

At the launching ceremony, a representative of the Department of Population and Children informed: After the merger, Bac Ninh province will have a population of about 3.4 million people; the sex ratio at birth in 2025 will be about 121.1 boys/100 girls - a very high number compared to the natural balance, causing serious gender imbalance in the future.

This year’s International Day of the Girl Child, October 11, with the theme: “Investing in girls - For family happiness, for the future of the country”, is an opportunity for the whole society to remind us of our responsibility to protect the rights of girls, affirming the position and role of women in the family and in society. This is also an important time for us to join hands to gradually bring the sex ratio at birth back to its natural balance.
To do that, the representative of the Department of Population and Children's leadership called on all levels, sectors, organizations, unions and people to promote extensive propaganda about the consequences of gender imbalance at birth, raise awareness of gender equality and the value of girls. Strictly implement the provisions of the law, especially prevent and strictly handle the act of choosing the sex of the fetus. Promote the role of the community in implementing gender equality work. Honor and replicate typical examples, thereby affirming that girls have full capacity, intelligence and qualities to contribute to social development.

Within the framework of the program, representatives of the Luc Ngan Medical Center, associations and unions of Kien Lao commune, the school's Board of Directors and students spoke in response, expressing their actions and determination to carry out tasks to achieve the goal of reducing gender imbalance at birth; paying attention to education , care, and creating equal learning and working opportunities for girls in the family and society.
