For many residents of It Noc, the recent natural disaster is an unforgettable memory, as the village has never suffered such extensive damage before.

From the afternoon of September 29th, thunderstorms and heavy rain began to pour down relentlessly, causing massive landslides on the mountain slopes. The raging floodwaters rushed down with a deafening roar, sweeping away everything in their path.
Phung Thi Nhinh's house at the beginning of the village, though sturdy, was also very vulnerable to the natural disaster. Mud and debris behind the house collapsed completely, but luckily, Nhinh's entire family was safe because they had proactively evacuated beforehand.
After the disaster, she returned and witnessed her house being swallowed by mud. Although her home was gone, the most important thing for her was that all her family members were safe.

The safety of Ms. Nhinh's family was not a matter of chance, because just before the remnants of typhoon No. 10 made landfall, the Party cell of It Noc village and the village's disaster prevention and response task force held regular meetings to discuss response measures.
After the damage caused by the remnants of Typhoon No. 3 (in 2024), the villagers understood that only proactive prevention could protect themselves.
"The village identified six potentially safe locations for flood prevention and quickly reviewed households in the danger zone, agreeing on an evacuation plan," shared Ms. Trieu Thi May, Secretary of the Party Branch of It Noc village.
Despite various forms of public awareness campaigns, people remained uneasy. Therefore, the Party Branch Secretary, the Village Head, and the Disaster Prevention and Control Task Force regularly conducted on-site inspections of each safe location and thoroughly surveyed the surrounding areas to predict potential risks.
Thanks to this, on the afternoon of September 29th, before the storm caused by the remnants of typhoon number 10 struck, all residents had reached safe shelters.

After the natural disaster, despite significant property losses, the people of It Noc village breathed a sigh of relief because there were no casualties.
Roads were cut off, communication was disrupted, and relief vehicles couldn't get in, but amidst the hardship, human kindness shone brighter than ever.
Ms. Trieu Thi Nghinh's house at the beginning of the village was severely affected when, on the left side of the house, the raging stream carried a huge amount of soil and rocks, overflowing its banks and submerging the first floor in mud.

When the floodwaters receded, the house was left in ruins. Without being asked, the villagers each pitched in, some shoveling mud, others clearing debris, and still others working tirelessly for days to help the family get back to normal life as soon as possible.
Ms. Nghình emotionally shared: “Everyone in the village is suffering because of the natural disaster, yet they still came to help my family. I don't know what more to say than to express my sincere gratitude.”

Like Ms. Nghình, the family of Mr. Triệu Tà Chiêu at the end of the village also suffered from a landslide, with mud and soil flooding down the hillside from the back to the front of their house.
As the rain subsided, more than 20 households quickly came to help the family overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.
Mr. Chieu shared emotionally: “I am truly touched. In times of hardship, no one thinks of themselves; they only think about the difficulties they are facing and help each other. My family greatly appreciates the help from our neighbors.”

Upon hearing the news of the disaster in their village, the people of It Noc who had gone away to work couldn't sit idly by. Ban Phuc Quy was one of them.
While working in Sa Pa, as soon as he heard the news, Mr. Quy immediately requested leave to return and help his fellow villagers. Upon arriving in the village, Mr. Quy immediately began working with the villagers to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.
On October 3rd, Mr. Quy, along with the Van Ban area power team, re-erected a power pole and restored the damaged power lines. Unfortunately, while working, a pole fell on his hand, causing a fairly serious injury. However, the important thing is that electricity was restored to the village that same afternoon.

Seeing the electric lights come back on, Mr. Quy happily said, "For me, the most important thing is that life returns to normal for my family and the people in the village."
After being injured and unable to do heavy work, Mr. Quy chose to help cook meals for the villagers at the school where they were temporarily sheltering.

By the glowing fire, Mr. Quy and the women in the village cook together to bring hot, nutritious meals to their neighbors.
Children eagerly help adults pick vegetables, wash rice, and set the table; anyone who has leftover food brings it out to contribute. Everyone gathers around the shared meal, overcoming difficult times together.

The family of Ms. Phung Thi Nhinh, whose house at the beginning of the village was completely destroyed, is also temporarily staying at the school.
These days, putting aside their busy family lives, the members of Ms. Nhinh's family are actively helping their neighbors overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.
Ms. Nhinh herself actively participated with her neighbors in preparing meals for people at the shelter: "As long as there are people, there is hope. At this time, community spirit and neighborly love are more precious than anything," Ms. Nhinh shared.

When asked what enabled the villagers to remain so calm and proactive, Ms. Trieu Thi May, Secretary of the Party Branch of It Noc village, simply smiled and said: "Because we understand that natural disasters are unavoidable, but if we unite and prepare well, the damage will be greatly reduced. In It Noc, everyone cares for each other like family, and that is the greatest strength that helps us stand firm in the face of natural disasters."
In the following days, when the Party Committee and the government of Van Ban commune reached It Noc village, they mobilized a considerable amount of essential supplies to provide to the villagers. When the supplies were gathered at the It Noc school, the village Party Secretary clearly instructed that they be used economically and rationally, avoiding waste, because another storm was approaching.
Not only focusing on damage mitigation, the village Party branch directed residents to proactively reinforce their houses, build earthen embankments, and clear debris from the streams to improve drainage, preparing for Typhoon No. 11, which was predicted to be as strong as Typhoon No. 10. The spirit of "the storm is not over, but people's hearts remain strong" permeated every individual.

Comrade Nguyen Anh Chuyen - Secretary of the Party Committee of Van Ban commune - praised and highly appreciated the proactive approach of It Noc village in disaster prevention and control.
In a discussion with key officials of It Noc village, the comrade emphasized: "Unity and the 'four on-the-spot' spirit are crucial for It Noc to overcome difficulties and avoid loss of life. Officials, Party members, and people of It Noc village need to continue to maintain their spirit and overcome the coming fierce storm."

Despite successive storms, the people of It Noc village believe that the spirit of solidarity, compassion, and community spirit will be the important strength and inner strength for the locality to overcome natural disasters in the coming time.
