Hong Thai commune, located more than 100km from the provincial center, is home to a large number of ethnic minorities, with the Dao, Mong, and Tay ethnic groups accounting for over 70%. Through village meetings, community activities, and daily life, these influential individuals directly disseminate information and explain new policies and guidelines to the people, thereby creating consensus in the implementation process.

One of the exemplary and respected figures mentioned by the people of Hong Thai commune is Mr. Trieu Van Ta, from Pac Khoang village, former Party Secretary and Village Head. Having been involved in mass mobilization work for many years, Mr. Ta always believed that for people to trust him, officials and respected individuals must set a good example. Based on the reality of inefficient corn and cassava production, he boldly experimented and encouraged villagers to switch to planting pear trees and Shan Tuyet tea, which are well-suited to the local climate and soil.

Mr. Trieu Van Ta said: “Initially, people were hesitant and afraid of risks. To date, many households in Pac Khoang village have stable incomes and significantly improved living standards. Not only in Pac Khoang, the bridging role of respected individuals is clearly demonstrated in other villages throughout the commune. Mr. Luong Duc Pao, a respected figure in Ban Am village, said that disseminating information and mobilizing the people cannot be done through coercion but requires patience and closeness. "Many policies are difficult for people to understand if they only read the documents. Respected individuals must explain them with concrete examples, linking them to practical benefits, so that people will agree," Mr. Pao shared.

The village of Bản Âm, with 100% ethnic minority population, initially faced considerable difficulties in promoting civilized customs in weddings and funerals. In his role, he, along with village elders and leaders, went to each household to persuade and explain the long-term benefits of changing outdated customs in wedding and funeral ceremonies. As a result, the time and cost of performing these rituals were reduced.

Reputable individuals in Hong Thai commune are mobilizing the people to change their mindset and approach to economic development.

The people's trust in respected elders is clearly demonstrated through their support in all movements and activities at the grassroots level. Ms. Tran Thi Chieu, a resident of Pac Khoang village, expressed: "For all village affairs, we follow the opinions of respected elders. They speak clearly and set a good example, so the villagers trust them very much." According to Ms. Chieu, when there are problems or conflicts in the village, respected elders are also the ones who step in to mediate, helping people understand each other better and maintain neighborly relations.

In reality, influential individuals in Hong Thai commune not only excel in their role of disseminating information but also serve as a channel for truthfully reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people to the Party committee and government.
