The problem of human resources in the IT industry - finding talented people for Vietnam to rise up

In the context of the Vietnamese IT industry "thirsty" for high-quality human resources, Zalo launched 2 large-scale training programs, opening up development opportunities for young people and building a successor team.

In the context of technology being the mainstay in many fields from banking, education to healthcare, human resources in the IT industry are falling into a state of supply-demand imbalance. According to the Vietnam IT Market Report 2024-2025 by TopDev, Vietnam currently needs about 200,000 more software engineers, data experts, technology product managers... but the recruitment market records a situation of "having people - lacking skills", "having passion - lacking direction".

Not standing outside that wave, many large technology enterprises have proactively invested in internal training, creating internship and apprenticeship programs to nurture young human resources from within. Recently, Zalo - Vietnam's leading technology platform - continued to launch two large-scale recruitment and training programs, Zalo Tech Fresher and Zalo Product Management Trainee (PMT), to nurture the next generation for the technology industry. Tech Fresher & PMT - Two directions, one long-term vision

Tech Fresher is a 3-month intensive recruitment and training program for final year students, recent graduates or those with less than one year of experience in the fields of Information Technology, Computer Science , Information Systems Security and related majors. Launched in 2022, Tech Fresher is not only a regular recruitment program, but also demonstrates Zalo's dedication to building a generation of young, talented programmers.

The program is systematically designed with a comprehensive capacity development roadmap, from core foundational knowledge to in-depth knowledge in each technical direction such as Backend, Frontend, Mobile, Data/AI, Security, System. Candidates are accompanied by experienced mentors and have the opportunity to practice with technology problems from products with millions of users.

While Tech Fresher focuses on the technical field, Zalo PMT aims to develop talents in the field of Product Management - a key but relatively new role in Vietnam. Zalo PMT is a program that combines practical training and direct guidance, for young people who are passionate about technology, have a background in business, technology and user experience. The program welcomes candidates from many different fields of study and backgrounds, with a common passion for exploring , developing products and a desire to build a career in the field of Product Management.

Launched in 2019, Zalo PMT is considered one of the pioneering steps to form a successor force for the Product Management industry in Vietnam, especially in the context that no university has formal training in this field. In 4 months, with 20% for theory and 80% for practice, young people are guaranteed to spend most of their time finding solutions to help improve Zalo's products and testing them in practice. Projects are assigned randomly, instead of being self-selected. Because Zalo believes that a potential Product Manager is someone who is willing to accept, learn and come up with ideas to solve any problems that the product is facing.

Both programs are aimed at young people (under 1 year of experience), providing opportunities to access a professional working environment, have mentors, a clear roadmap, and the opportunity to become an official employee at Zalo after graduation.

When training programs become "launch pads" for careers

The success of previous seasons is a clear testament to the value of hands-on training: In the first season (2022), Tech Fresher attracted more than 1,600 applications, selecting 62 outstanding candidates. Many of them have become key personnel at Zalo. Meanwhile, Zalo PMT with a competition ratio of 1/100 shows great attraction to young people - while the field of Product Management is still very new in Vietnam. PMT interns directly build and deploy real features on the Zalo application and monitor feedback from millions of users.

Allowing learners to “touch” real products, real processes and be evaluated by real results - has turned these training programs into ideal “incubators” for those who want to build a serious career in the tech industry.

Training for sustainable development - not just recruitment
