Photographer Nguyen Linh Vinh Quoc ( Gia Lai ) has just completed a photo hunt of whales hunting in Nhon Ly sea area. This was the first time he hunted for whales and was successful in collecting about 2,000 photos of the fish known as "king of the ocean".

Anh Quoc shared that in mid-July, he received a call from a friend informing him that a whale had appeared near the coast of Nhon Ly. What was special was that this time the whale appeared very close to shore. The two brothers set off in the morning and arrived at around 12:30.

After refueling with the lunch box, he and his friends asked the locals to rent a boat to go out to sea. After only about 700 meters, they encountered a whale hunting and each person found a corner to take pictures from 1-6 pm.

Anh Quoc said that this trip was considered lucky, because his friend spent more than a week in De Gi beach (Gia Lai) but only took a few photos because he did not see many whales. Meanwhile, that afternoon, whales continuously surfaced about every 15-20 minutes. In particular, schools of bait fish appeared a lot and close to the shore, which attracted whales to hunt.

Whales often swim in circles to catch schools of fish, diving deep and releasing bubbles like an invisible net. When the school of bait fish gathers, the whale dives deep and then jumps up, each time it can catch 5-7 kg of fish. After that, the whale quickly dives down, leaving a large wave trail.

The first time he encountered a whale, Mr. Quoc said that the boat he rented was 8-10 meters long, while the whale was one and a half times longer than the boat. The vast ocean made it difficult to know where the whale would surface. However, thanks to the flock of seagulls, he was able to determine the direction to place his camera.

“When the whale dived, the seagulls scattered everywhere. But when the whale was about to surface, the seagulls gathered in one place, made noises and swooped down to the sea surface. At that moment, we pointed our cameras at that location and just a few seconds later, the whale surfaced to catch its prey. That moment happened very quickly,” said Mr. Quoc.

After that afternoon, he continued to stay in the sea for 3 days but the number of times the whale appeared was quite small.
