In the early years of the resistance war against the US to save the country, despite the small number of troops and the many difficulties and shortages in facilities, under the direct leadership and direction of the Military Region Party Committee and the Left Bank Military Region Command (later the Party Committee and the Military Region 3 Command), the Battalion quickly completed its organizational structure, strengthened political and ideological education, and was determined to overcome difficulties, hardships, and sacrifices to successfully complete its tasks.
During the fierce years when the US imperialists intensified the war of destruction in the North, the unit's officers and soldiers always upheld the spirit of revolutionary vigilance, trained their mettle and fighting spirit, closely coordinated with other forces, fought and served in combat, contributing to the successful implementation of the Military Region Party Committee's determination: "When the enemy attacks, we repair and go, the engineer's ferry bridge is ready and waiting for the order to launch."
When the country was unified and the whole country was moving towards building socialism, to suit the organization and meet the requirements of the mission, on July 15, 1976, the Mixed Engineering Regiment was renamed the 513th Engineering Regiment by the superiors. In May 1989, the Ministry of National Defense decided to expand the organization and organization from the 513th Engineering Regiment to the 513th Engineering Brigade with the mission of training, combat readiness (SSCD), bomb, mine and explosive clearance, and construction of defense works in the area of Military Region 3. Carrying out the assigned political tasks, strictly following the leadership and direction of the Party Committee, the Military Region 3 Command and the Engineering Corps, the 513th Engineering Brigade focused on building a strong unit in politics, ideology and organization; promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
Accordingly, the Brigade organized training according to the motto "basic, practical, solid", ensuring the quality of training, the combat readiness ability was constantly improved, participating in competitions and sports competitions at the Military Region and the whole army level, achieving high rankings, and was commended by the Ministry of National Defense, the Military Region Command, and the Engineering Command. The Brigade participated in the construction of many traffic routes, directly built many defense works on the mainland and coastal islands, and constructed border patrol roads to ensure progress, quality, efficiency, and safety, which were highly appreciated by the Military Region Command.
The unit participated in clearing and neutralizing 11,350 bombs, mines, explosives, dismantling 10,596 spikes of all kinds, cleaning 3,220 hectares of land, contributing to socio -economic development, strengthening national defense and security in the northeastern border region of the country and some central provinces. The brigade always proactively mobilized forces and means to help people in Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces overcome the consequences of natural disasters, evacuate from flood areas; promptly respond and mend many broken dike sections, which were recognized by local Party committees, authorities and people.
The unit has effectively carried out propaganda work, encouraging officers and soldiers of the unit to respond to the construction of the model "Savings box for comradeship", expanding the model "Soldiers saving for family", and implementing well the Army's rear policy. From August 2018 to the present, with the unanimous response and high consensus, officers and soldiers of the Brigade have saved more than 820 million VND. Funds have been allocated to support the construction of comrades' houses and gratitude houses for 8 military servicemen in the unit with difficult circumstances, worth 640 million VND; giving savings books, visiting and supporting soldiers with difficult family circumstances, soldiers and relatives with serious illnesses, illnesses requiring long-term treatment, a total of 52 times. Thereby encouraging, sharing, uniting and motivating officers and soldiers of the unit to be determined to complete all tasks well.
In addition, the Party Committee and Brigade Command always pay attention to leading and directing the effective implementation of the emulation movement "The Army logistics sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings", actively promoting increased production according to the garden-pond-cage model. Effectively implementing the campaign "Managing and exploiting weapons and technical equipment well, durably, safely, economically and safely in traffic", every year always ensuring 60-65 vehicles and technical equipment with high safety coefficients for combat readiness tasks, ensuring the safety of the warehouse system and ensuring safety when participating in traffic.
After 65 years of building, fighting and growing, the officers and soldiers of the 513th Engineer Brigade have created the tradition of "Solidarity, coordination, proactive attack, resilient victory". The unit was honored to have Uncle Ho visit it on the occasion of the Binh Ngo New Year 1966, and was twice awarded the noble title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State and many Military Exploit Medals, War Exploit Medals, and Fatherland Protection Medals of various ranks. Battalion 25 (now Battalion 1 of the Brigade) was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the renovation period by the State. The achievements and feats of the 513th Engineer Brigade contributed to embellishing the tradition of "Solidarity, proactiveness, creativity, sacrifice, victory" of the Military Region 3 Armed Forces and the tradition of "Opening the way to victory" of the heroic Engineer Corps.
