The English Football Association (FA) has just announced that Foden will temporarily leave the England team to return home to "protect the dike".
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano: "Phil Foden has returned to England to welcome his third child. The Man City striker is expected to return on Sunday in time to participate in England's round of 16 match."
Daily Mail also confirmed that Foden temporarily left the "Three Lions" to be with his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke who just gave birth to their third child.
Phil Foden is not the first case of leaving the England team during the tournament. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Raheem Sterling also asked to go home for family reasons.
He then returned and played in the quarter-final against France.
Foden is a mainstay of the England team. Foden started all three group stage matches of the “Three Lions”. However, he has not been in good form as he has not contributed any goals for England. In the final match of the Euro 2024 group stage, Foden was also withdrawn early.
