A green, light-filled haven that bills itself as a " tourist destination, not just an airport," Singapore's Changi reclaims the top spot in Skytrax's annual ranking of the world's best airports.

Changi had topped Skytrax's list for eight years, but dropped in 2021 and 2022 due to a drop in passenger numbers during the pandemic, and Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, took the No. 1 spot.

Changi's main attractions include a 40m-high indoor waterfall, butterfly garden and IMAX cinema - not to mention more than 280 retail stores and restaurants, perfect for killing time while waiting for your flight.

"Singapore Changi, which primarily serves as a transit airport, is highly regarded by passengers for offering a wide range of facilities and amenities for everyone from families to business travelers, all of whom are well catered for," Skytrax's Peter Miller told CNN Travel .

Hamad International Airport, which this year took second place on Skytrax's list, also offers amenities designed for transit passengers – including city tours for those with more than eight hours of layover time.

Skytrax also handed out other awards, including regional awards, with Changi Airport winning Asia's Best Airport, as well as World's Best Airport Restaurants and World's Best Airport Entertainment.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has been named the world's best airport hotel for eight consecutive years.

Meanwhile, second-placed Hamad International Airport also won the World's Best Shopping Airport, Best Airport in the Middle East and Cleanest Airport in the Middle East, while third-placed Tokyo Haneda Airport was named the cleanest airport.

Bahrain International Airport won the World's Best Airport Baggage Handling award; Incheon Airport was named the Airport with the Best Staff and Immigration Process.
