The trumpet call from the dawn of the revolution

At that time, when the long night of slavery still covered the country, the voice of the nation was suppressed, Thanh Nien Newspaper appeared like a ray of sunshine dispelling the dark fog. As the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, the newspaper was not simply a propaganda tool but also a special school, a place to nurture and train steadfast revolutionary cadres. From here, the noble ideals of independence and freedom were sown and blossomed in the souls of the children of Vietnam.

Following Thanh Nien, beloved Uncle Ho continued to publish more specialized newspapers, penetrating every corner of society to awaken the masses. In 1926, Kong Nong Newspaper was born, targeting the working class and farmers - the hard-working but heavily oppressed people. In 1927, Linh Kach Menh Newspaper appeared, specializing in the task of enlightening Vietnamese soldiers in the French army, arousing patriotism and the will to fight for national liberation.

On October 1, 1929, a new turning point was marked with the birth of the Hammer and Sickle Newspaper, the Central organ of the Indochinese Communist Party, headed by comrade Trinh Dinh Cuu. Although it only existed for a short time, only 9 issues until February 1930, the Hammer and Sickle affirmed the remarkable maturity of revolutionary journalism, demonstrating the stature and leading role of the Party. At the same time, the Red Newspaper of the Annam Communist Party Branch in Shanghai was born, printed simply by hand on wax paper, but containing an indomitable spirit and iron will. From 1925 to the end of 1929 alone, more than 50 revolutionary newspapers and magazines were published. This number continued to increase, reaching 230 newspapers of all kinds in June 1936. During the period 1936 - 1939, Vietnamese revolutionary press was first allowed to operate openly, expanding international exchanges, affirming its position and voice.

Voice of independence and unity

On September 2, 1945, a brilliant new chapter opened in the history of the nation when the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born. Along with that important event, the first two press agencies of independent Vietnam were established: Vietnam News Agency and Voice of Vietnam . These were effective tools to convey information, build and protect the young country. After the Geneva Agreement in 1954, when peace was restored in the North, the Vietnamese revolutionary press entered a period of remarkable development in both quantity and quality. By 1957, the North had 134 newspapers. In the liberated areas of the South, revolutionary press activities also continued to grow. On October 12, 1960, the Liberation News Agency was born, followed by the Liberation Radio Station (February 1, 1962), the Southern People's Newspaper (October 1, 1964) and the Liberation Newspaper of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (October 20, 1964).

Despite the fierce war and fierce bombs, the period of 1960 - 1975 witnessed the birth of 80 newspapers. A revolution in journalism took place with the trial broadcast of Vietnam Television on September 7, 1970 and the first official program on January 27, 1971. This marked the opening of a new type of journalism - television, bringing vivid images and sounds to all parts of the country, enriching the information life of the people.

Journalism in the era of innovation and integration

After 1975, when the country was completely unified, the Vietnamese revolutionary press entered a new stage of development, expanding in scale and enhancing its position in the country's political and social life. In the process of national renewal, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has constantly affirmed its role as a pioneering force on the ideological and cultural front, as a bridge between the Party, the State and the People; between policies and practical life. The press has promoted its role in leading and orienting public opinion, creating consensus in society, contributing to creating the combined strength of the entire nation.

With an objective and multi-dimensional approach, the press has truthfully and vividly reflected social life in all regions of the country; promptly highlighted urgent issues on poverty reduction, environment, education, health, social security, administrative reform and prevention and control of corruption, waste and negativity. The press plays a role in monitoring and criticizing society, detecting bottlenecks in management and policy implementation, making appropriate recommendations, helping the Party and State promptly adjust and perfect institutions and laws, thereby improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management.

Newspaper and radio reporters at work

After 100 years of accompanying the nation, growing up with the country, the Vietnamese revolutionary press is not only a historical witness, but has truly become a sharp ideological tool in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland. Each news line, each article, each broadcast program are "bricks" that build the great building of socialism. The history of the Vietnamese revolutionary press has recorded the noble sacrifices of more than 500 journalists, dedicating their lives to the independence, freedom of the Fatherland and the happiness of the People. The blood of martyr journalists has "kept the fire" of the Vietnamese revolutionary press for the past 100 years. That fire is both a memory and a motivation, a valuable asset for the Vietnamese press to firmly walk with the nation, with the country, continuing to write successes in the new era of the nation.

To fulfill its noble mission, the press continues to adhere to the Party's viewpoints, policies and guidelines; closely follow the breath of life and the times. Continuously propagate the revolution in arranging and streamlining the apparatus of the political system; socio-economic development; breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation... In particular, press agencies build a team of cadres, reporters and editors with strong political will, good professional skills, clear professional ethics, imbued with the spirit of serving the country and the people, truly "sharp pen - pure heart - bright mind" journalists, leading the way on the information and propaganda front. Each press agency comprehensively innovates its thinking, operating methods and apparatus organization to meet the development requirements of the country.
