Over the 50-year journey of construction and development, the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City have always promoted the tradition of solidarity, dynamism, creativity and resilience to overcome numerous difficulties and challenges, achieving great and comprehensive achievements in all fields, creating a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the city in the future.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized: The achievements that Ho Chi Minh City has achieved over the past 50 years cannot be without the valuable, responsible and dedicated companionship of the team of journalists - from press agencies in the city to the press force nationwide.
The press has always been a reliable bridge between the Party, the government and the people, contributing to spreading the aspiration for development, promptly reflecting the reality of social life and accompanying the city on the journey of innovation, integration and breakthrough.

Dear Permanent Vice President Duong Ngoc Hai, how do you evaluate the efforts of the press in accompanying the development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past 50 years?

Recently, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Ho Chi Minh City solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. This is also a milestone marking the proud half-century of formation and development of Ho Chi Minh City.
On that journey, from the starting point with a "fragile shirt" after the war, the city has strived to overcome many difficulties and challenges to rise strongly and achieve many great achievements.
To achieve that result, the support of the press is extremely important and valuable. The press is not only an effective information and propaganda channel but also a dedicated companion, concerned with the difficulties of the city, contributing to promoting the comprehensive development of the city.

The leaders of Ho Chi Minh City always acknowledge and appreciate the role of revolutionary press in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, as well as in the process of developing the city. We always consider the team of journalists as the core and important force on the ideological and cultural front.
In fact, in recent years, press activities in the city have been very rich, diverse, and constantly growing in quantity and quality. Ho Chi Minh City is considered the most vibrant press center in the country with a rich information ecosystem.
The press is always ready to commit and be present in the most difficult and challenging places, sharing and accompanying the Party Committee, government and people of the city to overcome the most difficult times.
The press has performed its role of communication very well, spreading the desire for development, arousing trust and consensus in society. The press agencies have promptly conveyed the Party and State's policies and guidelines to the people, helping to raise awareness and create unity in action.

Notably, from Resolution 54/2017 to Resolution 98/2023, the press has been a constant companion of Ho Chi Minh City in the journey of creating special mechanisms. With the role of information, criticism and public opinion orientation, the press is one of the important forces contributing to help Ho Chi Minh City gradually realize special mechanisms, pave the way for new models and policies, creating a strong and sustainable development momentum, for the whole country and with the whole country.
In particular, the press is not afraid to criticize and courageously reflect on thorny issues and shortcomings in practice, especially in the fight against corruption and negativity and in Party building and rectification. Many series of investigative articles and in-depth reports have contributed to encouraging authorities to deal with violations, thereby improving the effectiveness of state management and strengthening people's trust.

The team of journalists is also increasingly mature, steadfast in political will, professional in work, and with standards of professional ethics. They are truly the vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front.
We feel that the majority of journalists write about Ho Chi Minh City not only with their pens, but also with their hearts, with a sense of responsibility and deep love for the city. Most of the information that the press conveys is always honest, timely, and humane, contributing significantly to pushing back fake news, toxic news, and fighting against wrongdoings and violations of the law.
.

As he shared, besides propaganda work, the press also boldly reflects on shortcomings and negativity, contributing to building a civilized, modern, and humane Ho Chi Minh City ?

That's right. Over the years, the press has demonstrated its role as a sharp social monitoring channel, courageously reflecting on shortcomings, limitations, and even violations in many areas of social life. Thanks to that objectivity, dedication, and timeliness, many pressing issues of the people have been reflected, creating conditions for the authorities to intervene, protect the legitimate rights of the people, and strengthen trust in society.

In particular, many elaborate investigative articles by the press have become valuable sources of information, supporting the authorities to promptly detect, investigate and handle complicated cases, contributing to ensuring the principle of "not letting criminals escape, not wrongfully convicting innocent people", maintaining political security and social order and safety in the area.
The press also plays a role as a channel to honestly reflect the difficulties and problems arising in the process of implementing mechanisms and policies at the local level, helping the government to make timely adjustments that are close to reality. Not only raising issues, the press also proactively suggests solutions, quotes experts and managers, and provides practical support for the decision-making process of the city's leaders.
Along with that, through honoring good people and good deeds, introducing creative models and effective methods, the press contributes to fostering a civilized urban lifestyle, building the image of a modern, dynamic and humane city.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the four important resolutions of the Politburo are the fundamental institutional pillars, creating a breakthrough momentum to bring our country forward in the new era. How does he expect the press to accompany Ho Chi Minh City so that the city can demonstrate its leading role, together with the Central Government, to realize these four resolutions ?

Our country is entering a new era of development with the aspiration to become strong and reach the regional and world level. In that journey, the four key resolutions just issued by the Politburo are considered important institutional foundations, providing comprehensive strategic orientations for the country's development in the new period.
Specifically, including: Resolution 57/2024 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 59/2025 on international integration in the new situation, Resolution 66/2025 on innovation in law making and enforcement to meet the requirements of national development in the new era and Resolution 68/2025 on private economic development.
These are major resolutions, covering key areas for national development - from legal institutions, economic dynamics, to science and technology and international integration - which General Secretary To Lam emphasized as "fundamental institutional pillars, creating breakthrough momentum to move the country forward in the new era".

Ho Chi Minh City, as the economic, scientific, technological and innovation center of the country, has quickly recognized the importance of these resolutions. The city has directed departments and branches to urgently advise the City People's Committee to develop a specific and practical implementation plan, demonstrating its determination to play the role of a "pioneer city" in realizing the goals set by the Party.
In that flow of current events, the Ho Chi Minh City press, with its dynamic, critical and practical nature, cannot stand aside. The immediate task is for the press to proactively research and grasp the content of the resolutions in order to effectively and accurately disseminate them, especially the new and breakthrough points that have a direct impact on economic and social life.

At the same time, it is necessary to promote the advantages of Ho Chi Minh City, where there is rich and sensitive practice, to provide vivid evidence, deeply reflecting the movements from the resolution into life; not only as a communication channel but also as a channel for responsible criticism, accompanying policy making early and from afar.
Through that, it helps support the city's leaders to promptly identify problems arising during the implementation process, flexibly manage and effectively organize the implementation of major policies, for the rapid and sustainable development of the city and the whole country.
Through monitoring, I learned that the HCM City Law Newspaper recently organized a discussion on "Removing barriers for private economic development according to Resolution 68" which both affirmed the role of the private economy as one of the most important driving forces of the national economy and dissected practical problems to find solutions for the private economy to break through.
Obviously, forms such as seminars, workshops, and forums are effective communication channels, contributing to providing multi-dimensional information, honestly reflecting the breath of life. The City's leaders will always accompany and create conditions for the press to organize these activities, building a government that listens and acts, for sustainable development.

.

In the current journey of innovation and strong breakthrough of Ho Chi Minh City , in your opinion, how should the press continue to accompany?

As I shared above, Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country are entering a new stage of development - a stage towards a powerful era, an era of national growth with great and challenging political tasks; the requirements for Ho Chi Minh City - the largest economic center of the country - are very high.
Our Party has set two ambitious 100-year goals: By 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding, we will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income; and by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the country's founding, we will become a developed country with high income. This is a strategic vision that requires the synchronous and persistent participation of the entire political system, in which the press plays a pioneering and leading role.

In particular, the National Assembly has just passed a Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025, unifying the country into 34 provinces and cities, operating a two-level local government model from July 1. This is a historic and unprecedented turning point, requiring careful preparation and close support from the whole society.
In the historical context, I expect the press to accompany the process of rearranging administrative units and building a two-level local government model, ensuring smooth and convenient implementation, best serving the people and businesses.
In that process, the press must strongly promote its role in informing, propagating, and disseminating policies and guidelines, creating consensus in society, and arousing people's confidence and aspirations for development. At the same time, it must also quickly grasp the shortcomings, difficulties, and obstacles in the initial period of policy implementation; provide sharp, objective criticism, courageously raise issues, promptly offer advice, and contribute to the government's planning and policy adjustment in line with reality, in the right direction, and effectively.

At the same time, the press needs to resolutely fight against false information and ideologies that distort the Party and State's policies and guidelines on apparatus restructuring, contributing to maintaining social stability and orienting public opinion accurately and positively.
Entering a new era, revolutionary press needs to continue to innovate to carry out its mission of effective information and propaganda, closely following the cause of national construction and defense, including the task of developing Ho Chi Minh City into a model urban area, an economic locomotive, a center of innovation and international integration.
Proud and inheriting the achievements over the 50-year journey, with the support of the press, the city's leaders believe that the new Ho Chi Minh City will continue to confidently move forward, worthy of its role as the economic locomotive of the country, worthy of the region.
