Alarm about murder crimes Part 1: Heartbreaking cases

Recently, there have been many brutal and violent murder cases, seriously affecting the security and order situation, causing public outrage. Although murder crimes account for a small proportion of crimes against social order, they are increasing in both number and severity. This requires the authorities and the whole society to take more effective measures to prevent this dangerous crime.

Haunting Cases

Many incidents were just due to small conflicts, but some people used violence and weapons to solve the problem, causing heartbreaking cases. Specifically, Nguyen Hoang Thach, born in 2001, and Ms. NTMT, born in 2004, both living in Trang Co hamlet, Don Thuan commune, Trang Bang town, had a romantic relationship with each other.

Because Ms. T wanted to break up, at around 1:00 p.m. on August 19, 2022, after going out drinking together, Thach talked to T to maintain their relationship but she did not agree. The subject had the intention of wanting both of them to die, so he used his hands to strangle Ms. T's neck and dragged her down to the East canal in Trang Co hamlet to drown her. At the same time, a police officer from Don Thuan commune came home from work and discovered and rescued both of them to shore, but Ms. T had already died from drowning.

There are cases where both the victim and the perpetrator are family members. At around 4:00 p.m. on February 16, 2023, Trang Bang Town Police received a report from Loc Hung Ward Police about a murder that occurred in Loc Vinh Quarter, Loc Hung Ward, Trang Bang Town, committed by Nguyen Huu Quoc, born in 2002.

Accordingly, at around 2:00 p.m. on February 16, Ms. NTC, born in 1984, was lying in a hammock in front of her house when Nguyen Huu Quoc (Ms. C's biological son), who lived in the same house, walked over to talk and got into an argument about Quoc's illegal use of drugs.

Because Ms. C scolded him, Quoc got angry and hugged Ms. C, causing her to fall backwards onto the cement floor, using both hands to hit her in the face. The subject walked back to the hammock and sat down. While she was standing up, Quoc suddenly took a 36cm long, 2.3cm diameter metal bar and hit her on the top of the head, causing C to fall. Quoc repeatedly hit Ms. C's head, forehead, and face.

After that, Quoc took a 49cm long metal sickle and cut Ms. C's neck. Seeing that she was dead, he did not cause any more injuries. At around 3:00 p.m. the same day, Ms. C's husband came home from work and discovered his wife dead, so he reported it to the police.

In addition, there are many cases of death due to very simple reasons, just because of “hate” and then arguing and stabbing each other. These cases are happening more and more, the severity has sounded the alarm about the hooliganism and lack of culture of a part of today’s youth.

For example, on May 21, 2022, stemming from a conflict while bathing at Long Dien Son Tourist Area in Ninh Son Ward, Tay Ninh City, NDK's group, born in 2008, residing in Bau Lun Hamlet, Binh Minh Commune, Tay Ninh City (including 7 people) blocked and beat NTH's group, born in 2006, residing in Quarter 3, Chau Thanh Town, Chau Thanh District (including 13 people) on Tran Phu Street in Ninh Trung Quarter, Ninh Son Ward.

During the fight, H and his accomplices used knives and helmets to hit and stab K and his friend many times, causing K to collapse on the street. After committing the crime, H and his accomplices left the scene. As a result, K was seriously injured and died.

Murder due to social causes

From December 15, 2020 to December 14, 2022, nationwide, there were 2,304 murder cases, accounting for 2.66% of the criminal structure, killing 1,552 people and injuring 1,113 people. Of which, in 2022, there were 1,297 murder cases, killing 816 people.

The most prominent is the murder of family members, with 492 cases, accounting for 21.35%. The number of murder cases due to conflicts arising in daily life such as: traffic collisions, in daily life, when drinking alcohol... accounts for 44.18%.

Murders due to love conflicts account for 10.6%. There are many murders in which the acts of committing the crimes are extremely brutal, savage, and brutal (using military weapons, poison, arson, etc.), killing children, killing many people, murdering and dismembering bodies, robbing property, murders due to business conflicts, financial debts, debt collection related to gambling, and "black credit".

The number of murder cases caused by mentally ill or “stoned” subjects, although accounting for a small proportion (4.8% of the total number of murder cases), has become more complicated and has caused particularly serious consequences. Organized crime, gangs, and thugs using weapons (guns, knives, swords, machetes, etc.) to commit crimes to compete for territory, resolve conflicts, and take revenge on each other have been basically controlled, but there are still many potential complications.

According to the analysis of the police, most murder cases arise due to social causes such as: conflicts in the life of husband and wife, family members or conflicts that arise while drinking alcohol or beer or committing crimes during and after using stimulants.

In addition, many subjects have limited legal awareness, lack ofeducation and family management, and exposure to violent images from movies, online games, social networking sites, etc.

Major Huynh Van Suu - Captain of the Basic Professional Topic Team, Criminal Police Department, Provincial Police said that in general, murders are due to the criminals' lack of awareness of obeying and respecting the law, lack of legal knowledge, and low education level.

The motives for committing crimes mostly stem from petty conflicts, and the criminal acts demonstrate a hooligan, reckless, and lawless nature. Murderers tend to be younger, and are willing to resolve small conflicts in life with violence.

Most of them have unstable jobs and use alcohol, beer and other stimulants. Many opinions say that the cases that have occurred in recent times have sounded the alarm bell about the decline in morality and human feelings, a manifestation of lack of self-control.

Given the complex nature and serious impact on security and order of murder crimes, authorities need to focus more on propaganda and dissemination of laws widely among all classes of people to raise awareness of compliance.

The authorities need to promptly grasp the situation, intervene, and reconcile conflicts arising among the people, and mobilize the entire population to participate in preventing and fighting crime. In addition, those who commit murder must be severely tried to increase deterrence.

From December 15, 2020 to November 14, 2022, the social order crime situation in the whole province detected 1,384 cases (a decrease of 259 cases), of which 51 were murder cases (an increase of 12 cases compared to the same period). Murders occurred for the purpose of robbery; due to hooliganism; groups of people using weapons and dangerous weapons to resolve conflicts; due to mental illness; drug addiction.

In cases of murder due to hatred, there are long-term hatred conflicts (conflicts within the family, about economics , land, love...) and temporary conflicts (traffic collisions, conflicts while drinking alcohol, beer, living...).
