Children practice writing before entering first grade
Parent Bui Thi Cam Tien in Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City, whose child is in 2nd grade, said that in kindergarten, her child was introduced to letters and numbers at kindergarten, she went to extra classes, and at home, her parents taught her more so that she could master the alphabet, learn compound letters, and learn basic spelling. When she officially entered 1st grade, the teacher taught her according to the lessons in class and her child made rapid progress.
"In my child's first grade class, there were two children who had never learned anything about letters or numbers before, they were completely blank. At that time, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, and we had to study online a lot, so these two children were really behind," said this parent.
Parents in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, hold the view that their children should not be taught Vietnamese and math books before the first grade. At home, parents let their children get acquainted with letters and numbers early, so that they can read early to develop language and thinking skills.
However, Ms. TT did not teach her child to write early because "the child is too young, his hands are still weak, writing early will not solve any problems". Ms. TT and her husband read books with big letters with their child, let the child get familiar with numbers from a young age, taught the child to spell, play with letters, and guess words and numbers. Thanks to that, the child learned to read very quickly.
