According to the provincial authorities, through environmental protection in general and the protection of natural heritage and biodiversity in particular, no genetically modified plants or animals or genetically modified products have been detected in the area in the past year. The control of alien species (golden apple snails, glass cleaner fish, mimosa...) is widely implemented throughout the province. Every year, Tram Chim National Park (Tam Nong district) implements a project to eradicate mimosa to limit the invasion of other species of animals, plants and ecosystems. With good management and implementation, Tram Chim National Park basically controls this invasive alien species, controlling the invasion and destruction of the wetland ecosystem in the conservation area.
At the same time, continue to implement the model of sustainable exploitation and use of natural resources based on the community, allowing people to exploit biological resources in a controlled manner in Tram Chim National Park, and at the same time share the benefits from the exploitation of natural resources reasonably between the people and the Park Management Board. In addition to promoting propaganda and educating public awareness in biodiversity conservation. Inspection, detection and handling of violations are also strengthened, not allowing serious violations to occur, contributing to raising people's awareness that economic development must go hand in hand with biodiversity conservation, and the reasonable use and exploitation of biological resources in the province.
Gao Giong Melaleuca Forest in Gao Giong Commune (Cao Lanh District) has a total area of over 1,500 hectares, including about 1,200 hectares of Melaleuca forest with a rich flora and fauna ecosystem. Comrade Huynh Thanh Hien - Head of Gao Giong Melaleuca Forest Management Board, said: "In protecting the forest ecosystem, the unit thoroughly educates cadres, employees and propagates and mobilizes people in the forest belt area to minimize the use of chemicals to avoid environmental impacts; and effectively implement forest fire prevention and fighting in the dry season. Through many forms, Gao Giong Melaleuca Forest Management Board coordinates to promote propaganda and mobilize people in the surrounding forest area to participate in the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Team, contributing to protecting the Gao Giong Melaleuca forest ecosystem associated with the development of ecotourism...".
The province continues to maintain the number and area of important nature reserves and wetlands; improve the capacity to manage and enforce the Law on Biodiversity; carry out tasks of managing and conserving biodiversity, protecting wetland ecosystems, historical sites, and nature reserves in the province. The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Police regularly control, prevent, and propose handling of violations of natural resources and biodiversity; prevent and combat smuggling and illegal transportation of rare and precious flora and fauna, prioritize protection, and wild animals in the province.
In particular, the province organized and announced the Project on Conservation and Development of Red-crowned Cranes in Tram Chim National Park; mobilized socialization, aid sources and promoted ecological restoration activities of the Ramsar Tram Chim area; supported livelihoods in the buffer zone, planted and produced more than 300 hectares of ecological rice. Along with that, people and communities in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park are increasingly raising awareness of the conservation of wildlife, rare and precious animals that are prioritized for protection. Pay attention to implementing the tasks of Plan No. 185 dated June 14, 2021 of the Provincial People's Committee on biodiversity conservation in Dong Thap province for the period 2021 - 2025, especially closely monitoring the export and import of genetically modified organisms; alien species, and export of rare animals and plants.
In the coming time, sectors, units and localities in the province will focus on improving the capacity to manage and enforce the Law on Biodiversity; protect wetland ecosystems, historical sites and nature reserves; implement the Biodiversity Conservation Plan for the period 2021 - 2025 in the area; regularly control, prevent and propose handling of violations against natural resources and biodiversity; prevent and combat smuggling and illegal transportation of rare and precious species of animals and plants prioritized for protection, as well as wild animals in the province.
