In recent weeks, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has seen an average of about 500 pediatric patients per day (an increase of approximately 20%). Common illnesses include respiratory and digestive diseases, rotavirus, RSV, rhinitis, pharyngitis, otitis, and even bronchitis, pneumonia, and enteritis. The main symptoms are runny nose, cough, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Notably, some children have experienced severe complications, including respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to Dr. Pham Ngoc Muoi, Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases (Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital), children are easily susceptible to illness mainly due to sudden weather changes, when the northeast monsoon brings down temperatures, creating large temperature differences between day and night, while children's immune systems are not yet fully developed and cannot adapt quickly enough. In addition, doctors have noted some cases where parents self-medicate their children without consulting doctors, using the wrong medication for the wrong illness or dosage, leading to delayed treatment and even more serious complications requiring prolonged treatment.
Doctors advise that, to accurately diagnose a child's illness, parents should take their children to medical facilities for examination when there are unusual signs, and conduct tests when necessary. They should also ensure that children receive all recommended vaccinations to help them develop a strong immune system and effectively prevent infectious diseases during seasonal changes.
Over the past period, the Quang Ninh CDC has focused significant resources on implementing the expanded immunization program in the province. In October 2025, the Quang Ninh CDC conducted its fourth immunization monitoring session of the year across the province. This activity aimed to support units in effectively implementing the expanded immunization program and the tetanus-diphtheria (Td) adsorbed vaccine campaign safely and according to plan. The monitoring focused on checking the preparation and organization of immunization, reviewing and managing target groups, updating data on the software, receiving and storing vaccines, and ensuring safe immunization procedures at vaccination sites. The monitoring teams also evaluated communication efforts before, during, and after vaccination, ensuring that the public and parents of students received complete information and felt reassured when bringing their children for vaccination.

Along with the provincial level, the grassroots healthcare system in Quang Ninh province has played a good role in caring for and protecting children's health. Healthcare units at the grassroots level have maintained regular health check-ups, monitored growth, provided guidance on proper nutrition, and implemented seasonal disease prevention for children.
At Tien Yen Medical Center, the application of modern equipment such as SpO₂ monitors, digital X-ray systems, nebulizers, and advanced testing helps improve diagnostic accuracy and shorten treatment time for children. Simultaneously, the medical team provides advice and guidance to parents on how to care for and clean their children's noses and throats, and boost their immunity, contributing to preventing disease recurrence.
Dr. Be Thi Khang, Head of the Pediatrics Department (Tien Yen Medical Center), said: "The changing seasons cause an increase in respiratory illnesses in young children. We always prioritize early detection, timely treatment, and close monitoring of each case. Thanks to the close cooperation between the medical team and families, most children receive stable treatment, recover quickly, and complications are minimized."
Along with the efforts of the health sector, the attention of all levels of government and the proactive awareness of each family are important factors in protecting children's health. When disease prevention is implemented synchronously and effectively, it will create a solid foundation for protecting, caring for, and improving children's health in the province.
