A large number of South Korean fans welcomed Barcelona to their tour. |
After the bustling days in Kobe and Seoul, Hansi Flick's team continued to receive an enthusiastic welcome upon their arrival in Daegu, South Korea – the final stop on their journey.
Laporta - a "star" off the pitch.
As soon as the car carrying the Barca management team pulled up in front of the Marriott Hotel – the team's headquarters in Daegu – the atmosphere outside became as lively as a festival. Around 200 fans, mostly Koreans dressed in "Blaugrana" colors, had been waiting since early morning to catch a glimpse of their idols.
The first person to step out wasn't a player, but President Joan Laporta. He seemed to be chanted even more loudly than the football stars. "Laporta, I love you!" – the slogan echoed from many corners, blending with cheers and brightly colored flags.
Without keeping his distance, the Barca president was very friendly, walking along the lines of fans, shaking hands, signing autographs, and taking photos with them. Some people even brought jerseys of individual players, and Laporta happily signed them all without stopping.
That moment not only showcased Laporta's personal charisma, but also clearly reflected the global influence of Barcelona – a team that embodies both Catalan identity and is a symbol of football across borders.
Lamine Yamal has attracted the attention of fans. |
A few minutes later, the bus carrying the players arrived, and as usual, the excitement reached its peak. From Dani Olmo to Raphinha, from Lamine Yamal to Robert Lewandowski – each name chanted sparked a wave of exhilaration throughout the crowd. Despite their packed schedule, the players didn't forget to express their gratitude with smiles and friendly waves.
In particular, Raphinha received the most cheers – partly because of his impressive performance in the previous match, and partly because of the approachable demeanor he displayed throughout the tour.
Lamine Yamal, a rising young talent, also attracted attention. He wore sunglasses and a baseball cap, looking discreet but still unable to hide his star quality.
Rest before the final match.
After a boisterous welcome, the entire team quickly settled into the Marriott hotel to rest and have a meal. This will be a brief lull before they enter their final friendly match against Daegu FC – a team with a magnificent home stadium: Daegu Stadium, with a capacity of over 60,000 seats. This is also the venue that hosted the 2002 World Cup third-place match.
The schedule in Daegu was well-organized: the distance from the hotel to the stadium was only about 4 km, so the team bus could travel faster than usual. After the match, the Barca team would immediately travel to Incheon Airport (Seoul) by road – a journey of over 3 hours – to catch their flight back to Barcelona.
Barcelona remains a club beloved by Asian fans. |
Despite a rocky start due to delays and logistical problems, Barca ultimately completed a tour that yielded many positive results. From testing the squad and consolidating form to building fan confidence, and generating media attention and commercial revenue – everything sent positive signals.
More importantly, Barca reminded the world of one thing: this is not just a football team – it is a global cultural icon, intimately connected to Catalonia but also belonging to millions of football fans across continents.
What's next? The final match in Daegu will be a farewell to Asia. But for Barcelona, every trip like this is a stepping stone to the new season – a season in which they not only seek to reclaim their glory, but also reaffirm their status as a football empire.
