At the investigation agency, the subject declared that he was a monk, currently the abbot of Co Son Pagoda, located in Khoi Vi Thuong village (Quang Phuc commune, Tien Lang district, Hai Phong city), under the management of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hai Phong city.

Immediately after initiating the case and temporarily detaining the suspect, the Investigation Police Agency of Dong Hung District Police sent an official dispatch requesting the Religious Affairs Committee - Department of Home Affairs of Hai Phong City and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hai Phong City to verify the information of the above monk to serve the investigation.

According to initial information from the Religious Affairs Committee - Hai Phong City Department of Home Affairs, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duc (dharma name Thich Ban Tinh) is a disciple of Venerable Thich Tuc Bach - Abbot of Ven Pagoda (Le Chan District) and was ordained as a bhikkhu by the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hai Phong City in 2017.

From April 2021, with the consent of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Tien Lang district, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duc temporarily resided and practiced religion at Co Son pagoda until his arrest.

The Religious Affairs Committee of the Hai Phong Department of Home Affairs requested the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hai Phong City to investigate and verify the case of law violations related to monk Thich Ban Tinh. If true, it is recommended to expel the monk from the Sangha of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the city.

However, speaking to reporters, Venerable Thich Tuc Bach - Head of the Executive Committee of the Buddhist Sangha of Le Chan District, abbot of Ven Pagoda (Le Chan District) said that he is not the teacher of monk Thich Ban Tinh.

Venerable Thich Tuc Bach affirmed that monk Thich Ban Tinh has never practiced religion and has registered temporary residence at Ven Pagoda. The fact that monk Thich Ban Tinh practiced religion at Co Son Pagoda (Tien Lang District) and was caught red-handed by the police for "illegally possessing drugs" has nothing to do with the pagoda and other monks, nuns, and Buddhists.
