On August 5th, according to sources from Thanh Nien newspaper, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) plans to temporarily close Ca Mau Airport for 12 months, from November 1st, 2025 to October 31st, 2026, to implement Package 12 of the airport expansion and upgrade project. The complete closure is necessary because the construction process directly affects the entire system of runways, taxiways, aprons, and auxiliary facilities.

Ca Mau Airport will temporarily cease operations from November onwards for comprehensive upgrade work.

Package No. 12 has a total construction time of 14 months, with construction expected to commence on August 19, 2025, and be completed and operational by the end of October 2026. During this period, ACV will direct contractors to accelerate progress, striving to shorten the construction time to minimize the impact on local socio -economic activities.
Previously, the Ca Mau Airport upgrade project received investment approval from the Prime Minister in October 2024, with a total capital of over 2,400 billion VND, with ACV as the investor. The investment scale aims to achieve a 4C-level airport standard, capable of receiving medium-sized aircraft such as the A320 and A321, increasing the operating capacity to 1 million passengers per year by 2030 and 3 million passengers per year by 2050.
Currently, Ca Mau Airport has a runway 1,500 m long and 30 m wide, classified as a 3C-class airport, only suitable for small aircraft such as the ATR72 (maximum 90 seats) or the Embraer E190 (124 seats). The existing passenger terminal has a designed capacity of 200,000 passengers per year. For many years, the airport has only operated a single route, Ca Mau - Ho Chi Minh City, using ATR72 aircraft, with a frequency of one flight per day. Until mid-2023, Bamboo Airways operated the Ca Mau - Hanoi route using Embraer E190 aircraft, but temporarily suspended operations after a few months.
Regarding the implementation of Package No. 12, the land acquisition, compensation, and site clearance work has been completed by the People's Committee of Ca Mau province. The project affects more than 600 households, individuals, and organizations across a total area of nearly 106 hectares, with compensation payments exceeding 577 billion VND. The project area is located in Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau City (formerly Ward 6 and Tan Thanh Ward).
