TPO - Many farmers in Hue are entering a bountiful Tet vegetable harvest season, ensuring a prosperous and fulfilling Spring Festival in 2025.
These days, Quang Thanh vegetable village (Quang Dien district) - the largest green vegetable growing area in Hue city - is bustling with activity as it prepares for the Tet holiday vegetable crop of 2025. The vibrant green of the plants, from the fields to the rice paddies, signals a bountiful harvest for the Tet holiday. |
Quang Thanh is located downstream of the Bo River, with abundant alluvial soil deposited annually by the river, ensuring lush vegetation – a gift from nature to Hue's largest clean vegetable growing area. |
To prepare for the Tet vegetable crop, from the end of November, farmers in Quang Thanh are always present in the fields, busy preparing the soil, plowing, sowing seeds, and caring for the crops in the hope of a successful harvest. |
No longer producing vegetables solely for local consumption, the vegetables from Quang Thanh, and especially from Thanh Trung village, have become the main supplier for the entire city of Hue and surrounding areas. |
To ensure the production of clean vegetables, farmers adhere to organic farming methods, limit the use of pesticides, and actively apply VietGAP standards. |
The main types of green vegetables grown commercially in Quang Thanh are various kinds of cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower, beetroot, chrysanthemum greens, coriander, gourds, pumpkins, zucchini, celery, and herbs… |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (50 years old, Quang Thanh commune, Quang Dien district) said that her family supplies about 3 tons of clean vegetables to the market each year. This is mainly during the Lunar New Year. "Hopefully, with the current favorable weather and stable vegetable prices, my family will have a more prosperous Tet holiday," Ms. Ha said enthusiastically. |
In Thanh Trung village, every inch of land can help people "make money" by growing clean vegetables. For example, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thoi (50 years old) has only 500 square meters of cultivated land, providing her family with a stable income year-round, especially during Tet (Lunar New Year). |
Ms. Thoi assessed: "The people have prepared thoroughly from land preparation and seed selection to cultivation techniques, so the vegetables are growing very well. In general, the supply of green vegetables for the Tet market this year is diverse, and is expected to yield outstanding results due to favorable weather conditions." |
According to Mr. Dao Phuoc Truong, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Thanh commune, the entire commune specializes in cultivating 32.5 hectares of clean vegetables, with an average annual yield of about 150 tons. Currently, each hectare of clean vegetables in Quang Thanh generates revenue of 650-700 million VND per year. |
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tien, Vice Chairman of the Quang Dien District People's Committee, as Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, the prices of many types of vegetables remain stable and are likely to continue rising, making vegetable growers in the area very happy. Farmers hope for a successful Tet vegetable crop, with a good harvest and good prices, so that Tet in the countryside will be warmer and more prosperous. |
