An 8-year-old girl was admitted to the National Children's Hospital with persistent vomiting of unknown cause. Initially, doctors suspected a digestive disorder and performed an abdominal ultrasound and X-ray, but found no obvious abnormalities.

Doctors then performed an endoscopy of the stomach and colon, and the results also did not detect any abnormal foreign objects. Only after a more thorough examination did doctors discover that the foreign object was located in the vaginal tract.

According to doctors, the foreign object was found in a very rare location, often not thought of in cases of prolonged vomiting in young children. Because the symptoms are non-specific and easily confused with digestive or urinary diseases.

Immediately after determining the cause, the child was transferred to Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Here, Dr. Le Thi Hieu directly examined and safely removed the foreign object from the child's vagina. Fortunately, thanks to timely detection and intervention, the child's health has stabilized, with no serious complications recorded.

According to doctors, vaginal foreign bodies in young children are not uncommon, especially in the summer, when children have a lot of free time and are curious about exploring their bodies without realizing the consequences. Many children, especially girls of preschool and elementary school age, may accidentally or intentionally insert small objects such as beads, paper, toys, etc. into their vaginas.

However, if not detected early, foreign objects can cause severe infections, damage to the gynecological area, and even affect future reproductive health.

Doctors recommend that parents should regularly pay attention and properly clean their children's private areas every day. Talking to and instructing children to recognize and protect their private areas is very important. Parents should teach their children not to put anything into their vaginas, nor to play with small objects that could be dangerous.

If you detect abnormal signs in your child such as prolonged vomiting, itching, pain, discharge or strange odor in the genital area, take your child to a specialized medical facility as soon as possible.
