This is the case shared by lawyer Ngo Huynh Phuong Thao, Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, at the workshop "Protecting bank accounts against the increasing risk of online fraud", organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in coordination with the State Bank on September 19.
Lawyer Ngo Huynh Phuong Thao said that during her work and teaching at many law institutions, she has received many reports of being scammed for money on the internet. Most recently, an acquaintance of lawyer Thao was invited to do a "light work, high salary" job, interacting with clips on Facebook with the promise of receiving a good income.
"From the initial 10,000 VND that my acquaintance received thanks to the clip interaction transferred to his account, my friend lost a total of more than 25 billion VND after being lured many times. The victim reported to the police and denounced the crime, but the process of finding the scammer was very difficult" - lawyer Phuong Thao said.
Online transaction customers absolutely do not share OTP code with anyone, in any form to avoid losing money unjustly.
At the workshop, experts, lawyers, and technology experts also shared and warned about many online fraud tricks.
Mr. Doan Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Information Technology Department, State Bank, said that online fraud is not new and is a reality in the context of many unregistered bank accounts and "junk" accounts, causing difficulties for authorities.
The Government currently has Project 06, in which the Ministry of Public Security is the focal point and the State Bank coordinates to connect banking data with national population data, "cleaning" existing banking data.
The Ministry of Public Security is also completing the connection infrastructure to facilitate banks to connect to authenticate data. Cleaning customer data will greatly reduce risks in payment crime prevention activities, and help authorities prevent fraud.
To avoid being scammed and losing money, from the perspective of a commercial bank, Mr. Tu Tien Phat, General Director of Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( ACB ), recommends that customers do not click on the links sent to them; do not download the app if it is not available on the Google Play or App Store app store. Do not listen to anything related to financial advice via phone or social networks because most of them are scams and harassments...
"Customers should read and learn about scam notifications and warnings through official channels such as newspapers and information from banks to avoid them. In particular, customers should take a few seconds to read the information sent to their phones, such as OTP codes, to carefully read the content.
In the OTP message sent to customers, banks often include the content "this is a money transfer transaction, if you enter the OTP code, the account will be deducted", customers need to read carefully to avoid losing money" - Mr. Tu Tien Phat said.
Facial recognition when transferring money
According to Mr. Le Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Payment Department, State Bank, to limit fraud and cheating in payment activities, it requires efforts and coordination of all parties, including the role of banks and users.
"According to statistics, 90% of interbank money transfers are under 10 million, the rest are over 10 million VND. Therefore, there will be a regulation requiring biometric authentication (by fingerprint, face) when transferring money between banks, possibly at 10 million VND. This solution will also neutralize the practice of buying, selling, and renting bank accounts that has existed for a long time" - Mr. Le Anh Dung said.
