The country's Department of Justice stated: "The unauthorized disclosure of these classified documents could pose a risk to US national security."
Investigators seized about 13,000 documents from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort nearly a year ago, including 100 that were marked secret, though a Trump lawyer said all of the classified documents had been returned to the government . The documents included information about the U.S. nuclear and weapons programs and defense plans.

In a four-minute video on the evening of June 8 (local time), the former US President repeated many previous statements, including that the Department of Justice was being "weaponized" and that the investigation into him was "election interference": "I am an innocent man. I did nothing wrong." '
Despite being indicted, the politician has vowed to continue running for president in 2024.
Earlier, on April 4, Mr. Donald Trump appeared in court in Manhattan, becoming the first former US President to be criminally prosecuted, in the context of prosecutors accusing him of paying two women to suppress unfavorable information about him.
