Just before the match against Finland in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, veteran striker Robert Lewandowski suddenly left the Polish national team. He later wrote on social media: "Given the circumstances and the loss of trust in the coach, I have decided to leave the team and will not play as long as he is in charge."
The coach Lewandowski mentioned is of course Michal Probierz, who has led Poland since 2023.
