This morning, July 16, a low pressure area in the eastern part of the Philippines strengthened into a tropical depression. At 7:00 a.m. on July 16, the center of the tropical depression was at about 14.1 degrees North latitude - 131.8 degrees East longitude, about 1,000 km east-southeast of Luzon Island (Philippines). The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving slowly in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 5-10 km/h.

It is forecasted that in the next 1-2 days, the tropical depression will continue to move in a West-Northwest direction and is likely to strengthen into a storm. The storm will cross the northern Luzon area and enter the East Sea - the weekend (July 19 and 20).
The meteorological agency noted that at present, the tropical depression is still in the formation stage and has not yet strengthened into a storm. The dominant atmospheric systems such as the southwest monsoon, subtropical high pressure... are still fluctuating and unstable, causing the trajectory and intensity of this system to potentially fluctuate.
When it strengthens into a storm and moves into the East Sea, the storm may move West Northwest, towards the North of the Gulf of Tonkin with a probability of about 50-60%.
In the immediate future, fishermen at sea as well as those preparing to go to sea need to closely monitor forecast information.
