Vietnam's No. 1 player is currently not in good form and had to stop early at the 2025 Million Cup 3-cushion carom billiards tournament. Meanwhile, Bao Phuong Vinh won the ticket to continue with an impressive achievement.

Tran Quyet Chien only won 1 match in the group stage

The first day of the final round of the 2025 Million Cup 3-cushion carom billiards tournament (August 19) witnessed the debut of Vietnam's top players, including Tran Quyet Chien. This round has 32 players (including 16 seeds and 16 qualifiers) competing, divided equally into 8 groups, playing a round-robin to calculate points and rank. The top two players in each group will advance to the knockout round (16 players).

Tran Quyet Chien is considered the most promising candidate for the championship. However, the number 1 player of Vietnam unexpectedly stopped very early, when he only finished in last place in Group F. In the opening match against Dinh Quang Hai, Quyet Chien lost with a score of 36-40, after 29 shots. Next, the 4-time World Cup champion lost to Tran Chi Thanh with a score of 37-40, after 30 shots. The player from Ha Tinh had a 40-26 victory (after 17 shots) in the final match against Ngo Le Duy. However, that was not enough for Tran Quyet Chien to win a ticket to the knockout round.

Tran Quyet Chien is not in good form, winning only 1 match in the group stage.

Another surprise happened in Group H, when SEA Games champion Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu was also eliminated early. Thanh Tu finished at the bottom of the group after losing to all three opponents: Nguyen Chi Long, Le Thanh Tien and Nguyen Hoang Duy.

Bao Phuong Vinh and Tran Thanh Luc continue.

In Group D, Tran Thanh Luc and Chiem Hong Thai are the two names that will continue, when they both defeated Chuong Thanh Nhan and Cao Phan Triet Luan. In Group E, Bao Phuong Vinh easily took the top spot with 3 wins, when facing veteran players such as Nguyen Dinh Chien (40-23), Nguyen Thanh Tung (40-33) and Thon Viet Hoang Minh (40-23).

Some names that won a place in the round of 16 include Mai Tan Huyen, Nguyen Van Tai, Nguyen Nhat Hoa, Thon Viet Hoang Minh, Dinh Quang Hai, Nguyen Chi Long, Le Thanh Tien.

Bao Phuong Vinh won all 3 matches to enter the knockout round as group leader.

On August 20, the tournament will compete in the round of 16 and quarterfinals.
