Binh Dinh adds project to help transmit capacity of renewable energy projects

Binh Dinh approved the Phu My - Phuoc An - Quang Ngai 220 kV Transmission Line Project (circuit 2) with a total investment of more than 136 billion VND from the National Power Transmission Corporation.

Binh Dinh Province Investment Promotion Center said that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the investment policy and approved the investor for the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) to invest in the Phu My - Phuoc An - Quang Ngai 220 kV Transmission Line Project (circuit 2).

The project is invested in My Trinh commune, Phu My district with a total investment of 136.51 billion VND. The project has an area of land for expanding the transformer station of about 0.94 ha; the 220 kV line (including the permanent land area of the line pole foundation) of about 0.44 ha; the area affecting the safety corridor of the line of about 4.72 ha. The investment progress is from the first quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026.

According to the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, the project's objective is to receive and transmit power from solar, wind and hydropower plants in Binh Dinh province and neighboring areas to the national power system; ensure safe and reliable power supply for loads in the provinces in the region (Binh Dinh and neighboring areas); increase the stability of the regional power grid, reduce power and electricity losses in the system, and improve production and business efficiency.

As of early March 2024, Binh Dinh province has 21 operating power plants with a total capacity of 878.9 MW. Including 12 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 347.9 MW; 4 wind power plants with a total capacity of 107.4 MW and 5 solar power plants with a total capacity of 529.5 MWp. In addition, grid-connected rooftop solar power systems have a total capacity of about 223 MWp.

At the Workshop on coordination of dispatching and management of transmission grid operations, Mr. Dinh Van Cuong, Deputy Director of Power Transmission Company 3 - PTC3 (under EVNNPT) informed that the total renewable energy capacity connected to the PTC3 transmission grid by 2023 is 5,861 MW.

Including the renewable energy source on the distribution grid, the total capacity connected to the PTC 3 transmission grid and the distribution grid of 9 power companies in the South Central and Central Highlands regions is up to about 10,000 MW. Of which, the proportion of renewable energy source structure in the region is more than 50%.

With a very large structure of renewable energy sources on the distribution grid and transmission grid, a number of 220 kV lines and 220 kV transformers in the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan , Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, and Gia Lai always operate in full load mode.
