Among the nutritious, healthy nuts that are commonly sold on the market such as cashews, macadamia nuts, lotus seeds, chestnuts, etc., a relatively new type of nut has recently appeared and is being marketed by a few businesses: kônia nuts.
Kônia seeds, also known as civet seeds, are a type of plant that often grows naturally in forests or on fields in the Southeast and Central Highlands regions... This is not only an edible seed but also very good for health with many nutrients.

According to some studies, kônia seeds contain up to 67% oil, in addition to containing abundant protein, calcium and vitamins. In particular, the ingredients in kônia seeds help relieve stress and fatigue, support the heart and blood vessels, and are good for bones and teeth.

As the only unit in Binh Phuoc that is producing this rather new type of seed, Mr. Hoang Dao, Sales Director of Hoang Phu Production Company Limited, Loc Ninh District said: Once when I went to Thailand, I saw that they were selling roasted kônia seeds which were quite strange, so I researched and bought them, but the price was quite expensive, about more than 500 thousand VND/kg. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, many regions have this seed, so I tried selling it and unexpectedly the market received it quite well. Customers also really like the strange flavor of the seed.
Kônia is a naturally growing plant, so the seeds are mainly collected from trees in family gardens or from trees growing in the forest. Therefore, although the consumption of kônia seeds in the market is increasing, it is difficult to meet the demand due to the scarcity of input materials. The recent introduction of kônia seed products to the market has also helped poor ethnic minorities in some places to have more income after collecting seeds and selling them to production and processing units.
