Binh Thuan has another "Farmer Scientist" honored

Recently in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union coordinated with ministries and branches to organize the 5th "Farmer Scientists" honoring program in 2024. The purpose is to promptly evaluate, recognize, honor and commend the great contributions of intellectuals, scientists and inventors in the fields of agriculture and new rural construction, contributing to the cause of economic, cultural and social development in rural areas, national defense and international integration.

In Binh Thuan , Ms. Tran Thi Vu Phuong - Director of the Provincial Agricultural Seed Center was honored to be one of 56 "Farmer Scientists" nationwide to be honored this year. Ms. Tran Thi Vu Phuong is a master of plant science recognized in 2016. As Director of the Binh Thuan Provincial Agricultural Seed Center, Ms. Tran Thi Vu Phuong is responsible for leading and implementing research and application of scientific and technical advances in breeding, crossbreeding, testing, inspecting seed quality, restoring and producing good quality plant and animal varieties to serve agricultural production. Building a system to organize the production and trading of plant and animal varieties to serve local production.

The 2024 honor program just took place in Hanoi .

Ms. Phuong has directly participated as a collaborator and co-author in the research of rice hybridization and selection since 2000, with the results of many rice varieties recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development such as ML54, ML232, ML215... In 2021, she selected to create the DL221 rice variety to participate in the 10th Binh Thuan Province Technical Innovation Contest in 2023 - 2024 (the author group won second prize). All researched rice varieties are transferred directly to farmers in and outside the province.

Previously in Binh Thuan, 4 individuals were honored as “Farmer Scientist”: Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (Tuan Loan); Nguyen Tam - former Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center; Mr. Nguyen Van Binh - former Director of Binh Thuan Agricultural Seed Center and Mr. Ho Trinh - Director of Viet Nhat BIO Technology Company Limited.

The rice seed production model is jointly implemented by the Agricultural Extension Center and the Provincial Agricultural Seed Center.

It is known that from 2018 to now, the whole country has had 301 "Farmer Scientists" honored through this program. They all have research works, creative solutions, and technological products that have been widely applied and certified by competent authorities to bring many benefits to the agricultural sector, rural areas, and farmers.
