Binh Thuan will become a green energy center

With Binh Thuan 's advantages of sunny and windy natural conditions, it has attracted many large-scale investors in clean energy to realize the planning orientation for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Binh Thuan province will soon become the energy center, especially green energy of the country.

Miracles from sun and wind

The advantage of Binh Thuan in developing clean energy is that it has higher average wind and sunshine hours than other provinces, high wind speed and solar radiation, which gives Binh Thuan the potential and advantage to develop wind and solar energy. To develop wind power potential, since 2010, Binh Thuan province has built a Wind Power Development Plan for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030. For solar power, Binh Thuan province has also built a Plan for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Currently, Binh Thuan province has 35 renewable energy power plants in operation, generating electricity with a total capacity of about 1,409.71 MW, including 9 wind power plants with a capacity of 299.6 MW, 26 solar power plants with a capacity of about 1,110.11 MW. These plants make important contributions to the socio-economic development of the province and ensure electricity supply for the key economic region in the South and national energy security. Besides traditional energy sources such as thermal power, hydropower, onshore wind power, solar power, Binh Thuan province has a lot of potential to develop offshore wind power. Currently, many domestic and foreign investors have registered to survey and establish offshore wind power projects in the province.

Up to now, in the province, there are 9 projects with a total capacity of 25,200 MW registered and proposed by investors, of which the Thang Long Wind project with a proposed capacity of 3,400 MW has been approved by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade for investors to research and survey. With the above conditions and advantages, Binh Thuan is identified as an industrial center for clean energy, renewable energy, offshore wind power, and pumped storage hydropower. The windy and sunny land of Binh Thuan is different from other localities, this is the strongest attractive resource for investors in the current economic trend.

Electricity is also a potential of Binh Thuan.

In addition to the potential for developing wind power and solar power, with advantages in geographical location, natural conditions and human resources, Binh Thuan also has many opportunities to develop the green energy sector. AES is the largest US investor in the energy sector in Vietnam and the Son My LNG port project plays an important role in contributing to Vietnam's future energy. After completion and put into use, the estimated gas volume will be enough to supply energy for 15 million households. The construction of the plant will create more than 1,500 jobs and contribute to improving the quality of life for the people. In particular, Binh Thuan also has great potential to develop green hydrogen power projects.

Recently, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai had a working session with Hydrogen de France Company (HDF Energy). HDF Energy Company presented technology, solutions and the ability to develop green hydrogen power projects in Binh Thuan province. HDF Energy Company is an independent developer, investor and power producer from France, focusing on hydrogen production for power generation with zero carbon emissions, stability and 24/7 operation. One of the company's main solutions is Renewstable, which combines solar and wind power plants with hydrogen storage and power generation through Fuel Cells. The company's business activities include Hypower solutions that use hydrogen gas available at petrochemical and chemical refineries to generate electricity through Fuel Cells. Currently, HDF Energy Company is the investor implementing the world's first commercial green hydrogen power project through the Renewstable solution in French Guiana and in South America.

In addition, the company has also built the world's largest fuel cell factory in Bordeaux, France with a capacity of up to 1.5 MW/unit, which has been operational since mid-2024. To develop green hydrogen power projects in Vietnam, in recent times, HDF Energy has coordinated with agencies, units, and localities to conduct research, evaluate, and identify potential locations for project development in Vietnam, including Binh Thuan province with great potential for renewable energy. HDF Energy's leaders wish to implement green hydrogen power projects in Binh Thuan province, first of all in Phu Quy district and Tuy Phong district.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai said that the development of green hydrogen power projects is currently in line with the development orientation of the electricity industry in our country and Binh Thuan province, the goal is to gradually replace electricity production from fossil fuels with electricity production from renewable energy sources. In the immediate future, relevant departments and branches of the province will support HDF Energy Company to complete the procedures to pilot the green hydrogen power project in Phu Quy district.
