On June 9, an X user @fonyokapondoka posted a post claiming that BlackBerry was back in the market with a new phone model.
The account owner posted a picture of a grey smartphone with the BlackBerry logo and the caption: "BlackBerry has made a grand comeback."
The image quickly gained attention, reaching 1 million views and more than 15,000 interactions. Many believed that BlackBerry had officially re-entered the smartphone market.
However, according to verification by FactCheckHub , this statement is completely false.
FactCheckHub looked up the image via Google Lens and found that it is an edited image with a design that has many similarities with Apple's iPhones, especially the newly launched iPhone 16 series - from the dual camera cluster layout to the overall finish.
In addition, the BlackBerry logo seems to be inserted unnaturally on the back of the phone, and the product packaging also has many unusual points, raising doubts about its authenticity.
In fact, the last smartphone developed by BlackBerry was the Key2 LE, which launched before 2020.
Although the company later planned to cooperate with start-up OnwardMobility to produce new phones around August 2020, this project was canceled in 2022 when the start-up dissolved.
That same year, BlackBerry also officially stopped supporting its own mobile software services and shifted its focus to cybersecurity, secure communications solutions for businesses, governments and the automotive industry.
As of now, BlackBerry has not mentioned any new phone models on its official website.
