The above content is included in the Decision to amend the training program standards on semiconductor microchips at university and master's levels issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on July 22.
According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates registering for majors in this field must be in the group of 25% of candidates with the highest scores in the admission subject combination nationwide, and at the same time be in the group of 20% of candidates with the highest scores in Mathematics nationwide (according to data published annually by the Ministry of Education and Training).
Regarding the combination of subjects for admission to majors related to microchips and semiconductors, there must be Mathematics and at least one other subject in the field of Natural Sciences , similar to the old regulations.
Candidates with a university degree must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8/4 or higher for their graduation program.
For candidates who are students studying from other training programs transferring to the microchip and semiconductor training program, they must have a cumulative average score of 2.5/4 and some other conditions.

After the Ministry of Education and Training announced the 2025 high school graduation exam scores, Vietnam-Japan University and the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi announced the minimum scores and removed the requirement that candidates must achieve a minimum of 8 points in math and 24/30 points in combination to be considered for admission to majors related to semiconductors.
Previously in May, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a regulation that candidates who want to study for a bachelor's or engineering degree in semiconductor microchips, if applying for admission based on high school graduation exam scores, must use a combination of Math and at least one Natural Science subject suitable for the training program.
The total score of all subjects must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. Of which, the Math test score must reach at least 80% of the scale, equivalent to 8/10.
When consulting on the draft standard for semiconductor training programs, many schools said that the 8-point criterion for each subject is rigid, creating technical barriers in enrollment.
If applied, schools are worried that they will not be able to meet the target of training 50,000 workers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, as required by the Government. The representative of the Ministry of Education and Training at that time expressed that it is impossible to lower the entrance standards to meet the large demand for human resources.
