Ministry of Education and Training proposes exemption and reduction of tuition fees for students affected by storms and floods

The Ministry of Education and Training has just sent an official dispatch to provincial People's Committees regarding tuition support for students severely affected by storms and floods in many provinces and cities.

The Ministry of Education and Training requests that the People's Committees of provinces and cities continue to consider and decide on tuition support and exemption for preschool children and primary school students based on their authority and current legal regulations to share and support parents and students, especially students in areas affected by storms, floods and natural disasters.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that recently, in addition to policies on tuition exemption and reduction, support for learning costs and tuition fee payment according to Government regulations, many provinces and cities have issued resolutions on tuition fee support policies for preschool and primary school students in the area.

"The Ministry of Education and Training highly appreciates the attention and care of provinces and cities for education and shares difficulties with parents and students," the document stated.

The Ministry of Education and Training also reiterated that it has issued documents on implementing revenue collection in the education and training sector for the 2024-2025 school year.

Previously, reports from 18/26 provinces and cities directly under the Central Government sent to the Ministry of Education and Training showed that, as of September 16, the total damage to facilities and teaching equipment was estimated at 1,260 billion VND. 41,564 sets of textbooks were damaged.

Specifically, the damage to facilities was VND514,730 million. Of which, preschool education suffered VND117,637 million, primary education VND139,515 million, secondary education VND142,044 million and high school VND115,534 million.

Damage to teaching equipment was 745,801 million VND. Of which, preschool education suffered 306,618 million VND, primary education 169,514 million VND, secondary education 156,028 million VND and high school 113,642 million VND.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, 41,564 sets of textbooks were damaged or swept away by floods after storms and floods and need to be replaced. Of these, primary education needs 23,943 sets of books, secondary education needs 10,598 sets of books and high school needs 7,023 sets.
