The Circular promulgating the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Entrance Examinations, recently announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, stipulates the general implementation of three examination subjects/tests: Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject or test chosen by the Department of Education and Training.
On the morning of January 8th, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the Circular promulgating the Regulations on admission to junior high schools and high schools.
Regarding the entrance examination for 10th grade, the new circular outlines three methods for admission to 10th grade in high schools: entrance examination, selection based on academic records, or a combination of both. The choice of admission method rests with the local authorities.

Regarding the entrance examination method for 10th grade high school, to ensure uniformity and maintain the view that the exam should be less burdensome and costly, the circular stipulates that there will be three subjects/tests: Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject/test chosen by the Department of Education and Training.
The third subject for the exam is chosen from among the graded subjects in the lower secondary education curriculum, ensuring that the same third subject is not selected for more than three consecutive years.
The third exam is a combined test of several subjects selected from those subjects with graded assessments in the lower secondary education curriculum.
For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, and research institutes that organize their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or the combined exam of the remaining subjects will be selected by the Ministry of Education and Training, the university, or the research institute that directly manages them.
The third exam or combined exam for several subjects will be announced after the end of the first semester, but no later than March 31st of each year.
Regarding exam duration, the circular stipulates: Literature 120 minutes; Mathematics 90 minutes or 120 minutes; the third subject 60 minutes or 90 minutes; combined subject exam 90 minutes or 120 minutes.
The exam content is based on the secondary school curriculum, primarily focusing on grade 9.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the circular was developed to ensure the concretization of the provisions of the 2019 Education Law, in accordance with the practical situation in localities in the management and organization of junior high school and high school admissions. At the same time, it ensures consistency and uniformity with the 2018 General Education Program, the current junior high and high school continuing education programs, and related regulations on examinations, tests, and assessments.
