I am Tran Xuan Dam.
On the morning of July 16, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the 2025 high school graduation exam scores. According to the exam score data, Tran Xuan Dam, a 12A1 student at My Loc High School (Ninh Binh province) became one of the two valedictorians nationwide in this exam with a total score of 39/40 points in 4 subjects. Of which, Math scored 10 points, Physics scored 10 points, Literature scored 9.25 points, and Chemistry scored 9.75 points.
Parents work as construction workers, hoping their children will study well to escape poverty.
Ms. Bui Thi Luu, mother of Dam (born in 1983, residing in My Loc ward, Ninh Binh province) shared her pride and emotion since hearing the news that her son became the national valedictorian of the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Ms. Luu said that she and her husband had 4 sons, Dam was the second child. Both of them worked as construction workers, and also cultivated more than 1 acre of rice fields, working hard all year round. During the harvest season, Ms. Luu and her husband took advantage of the opportunity to sow rice for hire, and worked hard to spray pesticides to earn money to raise and educate their 4 children.
For her and her husband, their greatest wish is for their children to be able to receive a proper education so that they can have a less difficult life in the future and escape poverty.

Ms. Bui Thi Luu - Dam's mother was moved when she learned that her son was the valedictorian of the national high school graduation exam in 2025.
“When I was a child, I couldn’t go to school because my family was too poor, and we had many siblings, so I had to worry about food every meal. Now I still can’t read or write, I can’t write my name when I go to the hospital, I have to give my fingerprints for every procedure, sometimes I feel very sad. That’s why I always encourage my son to study hard to escape the poverty like his parents. Now that Dam has achieved such high results, I am so happy that I can’t express it in words,” Ms. Luu said, her eyes filled with tears.
Mr. Tran Xuan Thiem, father of Dam (born in 1982, residing in My Loc ward, Ninh Binh province) shared that since he was 4 years old, Dam has known how to study by himself like his older brother. As he grew older, Dam showed more and more of a spirit of self-study, so he and his wife always encouraged him to try harder.
“This morning, I was working when I received a call from Dam to tell me his exam results. After hearing that, my hands and feet trembled with joy. All my fatigue seemed to disappear. My son achieving such results is a great happiness for me,” Thiem shared.
Discipline is the "key" to achieving goals
Dam shared that to achieve high results in the recent exam, he built his own study method based on personal discipline. He did not take extra classes so he always tried to learn the knowledge in class. If he had any problems, he would ask his teachers immediately.
“During my studies, I always set clear goals for each day. Once I have determined my goals, discipline will help me take each step with the most certainty,” Dam said.
Every day, Dam usually wakes up at 4:30-5:00 a.m. to study. During the day, he studies at school, and in the evening, he helps his parents with housework, then reviews and practices until 11:00 p.m.
During the review process, after each test, Dam carefully reviewed his mistakes, meticulously recorded them in his notebook to learn from his mistakes and avoid repeating them next time.

During the learning process, Dam always builds a roadmap and sets clear goals.
For Dam, studying is not a pressure, but a serious journey while still maintaining a relaxed spirit.
“I don’t put pressure on myself. Every day I set a clear goal of how many questions to do for each subject. When I complete the goal, I will rest to keep my mind relaxed. On days when I am too tired, I allow myself to take a day off, as long as it doesn’t affect my long-term plans. Before entering the exam room, I prepare myself with a strong mentality and solid knowledge.
When I found out I was the national valedictorian, I immediately called my parents, teachers, and friends to tell them the good news. I can only thank my teachers and parents for always being there, silently supporting and giving me strength throughout the long journey," Dam said emotionally.
"My family is not rich, my dream is high so I have to try my best"
Ms. Tran Thi Hong Don, homeroom teacher of class 12A1 and Chemistry teacher, could not hide her emotion and pride when she heard that her student became the national valedictorian of the 2025 high school graduation exam.
According to Ms. Don, Dam is a very active student. He not only studies well but also actively helps his friends improve and always proactively supports teachers in all activities.
“Dam has a very clear study plan. Once he sets a goal, he always tries his best to achieve it. Therefore, Dam's recent exam results did not surprise me too much because it is still within the goal Dam has been quietly pursuing, and it is also what the teachers always expect from him,” said Ms. Don.

Teacher Tran Thi Hong Don shares joy with her excellent student.
Mr. Tran Nam Chung, Vice Principal of My Loc High School, said that the 2024-2025 school year is a special year, marking many outstanding achievements of the school's teachers and students.
“Last school year, the school achieved very proud results when it ranked first in many competitions. In those competitions, Dam made a significant contribution. Dam participated in the provincial Chemistry team and won second prize. In the 2025 high school graduation exam, the school had 25 scores of 10. Dam’s class alone ranked first in 4 subjects in the entire school in 5 graduation exams,” said Mr. Chung.

For Dam, current achievements are just the beginning of the journey to realize his dream.
With the results achieved, Dam plans to study Control and Automation Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This is also the field he is passionate about and has wanted to pursue since childhood.
Dam shared: “For me, success is not a destination, but a journey. On that journey, I will try to grasp and take advantage of every opportunity. I know that when I go to Hanoi to study, the burden will be on my parents' shoulders, so I have thought a lot to find a way to help my parents and realize my dream. My family is not rich, but my dream is high, so I have to try my best,” Dam said.
Dam has a very clear plan for the future. He has carefully researched the study encouragement and student support programs of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
“The first semester, I still have to let my parents pay for my tuition. After that, I will try to get a scholarship from the school to reduce my parents’ burden. I also plan to work as a tutor to pay for my own accommodation and living expenses, and also to practice my teaching skills,” Dam said.
Ms. Don believes that, although the road ahead is full of challenges, with her extraordinary initiative and determination, Dam will certainly go far and soon realize her dream.
