On July 22nd, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a Decision amending the Standards for Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Training Programs at the undergraduate and master's levels.
In May, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a requirement that high school graduates wishing to pursue bachelor's or engineering degrees in semiconductor-related fields, if applying based on their high school graduation exam results, must use a subject combination that includes mathematics and at least one natural science subject relevant to the semiconductor-related training program.
The total score of the subjects in the admission combination must reach at least 80% of the admission scale, for example, a minimum of 24/30 for a three-subject combination. In addition, the math score must reach at least 80% of the admission scale, for example, a minimum of 8/10.
The new regulations regarding the minimum score have been adjusted; instead of a rigid score requirement, it has been changed to: "Belonging to the top 25% of candidates with the highest scores in the subject combination for admission nationwide and belonging to the top 20% of candidates with the highest scores in mathematics nationwide (according to data published annually by the Ministry of Education and Training)."
Applicants must possess a university degree relevant to the field of study they are applying for. Their cumulative GPA from their completed program must be 2.8/4 or higher (or equivalent).
Applicants must be students currently enrolled in other programs who wish to transfer to the semiconductor integrated circuit program at the time of consideration. They must meet the following requirements: their current program must be compatible with the transfer program; they must fulfill the specified conditions; and their cumulative GPA must be 2.5/4 or higher (or equivalent).
This decision takes effect from the date of signing.
This adjustment was made in the context of significant fluctuations in this year's high school graduation exam scores, especially in mathematics.
