New Zealand Foreign Minister to visit Vietnam next week

Vietnam is the first stop on the New Zealand Foreign Minister's Southeast Asia tour.

Speaking to a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency stationed in Australia, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand, Nguyen Van Trung, said that “Foreign Minister Winston Peters’ visit to Vietnam takes place in the context of the coalition government in New Zealand having just redefined its new foreign policy priorities, in which Southeast Asia is considered a top priority partner, after Australia and neighboring countries in the South Pacific region. In particular, Vietnam is New Zealand’s first strategic partner in Southeast Asia and New Zealand highly appreciates Vietnam’s role and position in the region.

Vietnam is the first stop on New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters’ Southeast Asia tour. Following Vietnam, Peters will visit Malaysia, the Philippines and Timor Leste. The tour is intended to demonstrate the New Zealand government’s strong commitment to promoting engagement with Southeast Asia.
