Ministry of Health speaks out about information about Covid-19 outbreak in some countries

According to the Ministry of Health , since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has recorded 148 scattered cases of Covid-19 in 27 provinces and cities, with no deaths. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City has 34 cases, Hanoi 19 cases, Hai Phong 21 cases, Bac Ninh 14 cases, Nghe An 17 cases...

According to the Ministry of Health , although the number of Covid-19 cases in the country has increased slightly in the past 3 weeks with an average of 20 cases/week, no concentrated outbreaks have been recorded.

Regarding the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the world , in the 28 days up to April 27, the world recorded 25,463 Covid-19 cases (down 56.9%), the number of deaths related to Covid-19 decreased by 37.9% compared to the previous 28 days. Of which, Brazil is the country with the highest number of cases in the past 28 days with more than 7,000 cases, followed by the UK with more than 5,000 cases.

In Thailand, from January 1 to May 10, 53,676 cases of Covid-19 and 16 deaths were recorded. In Bangkok alone, the highest number of cases was 16,723 cases, peaking in the week from April 27 to May 3 with 14,349 cases, including 2 deaths. The increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand is related to the increase of the XBB.1.16 sub-variant in Thailand.

According to the Thai Ministry of Health, although the number of Covid-19 cases has increased recently, the ministry recommends that Thai people should not be too worried because this is a disease endemic in Thailand and most cases only have mild symptoms.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 has emerged since 2023, has the ability to spread rapidly but there is no evidence of causing more severe symptoms and there is currently no new warning for Covid-19 globally. The rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand coincides with the time and incubation period after the traditional New Year, most likely due to the increase in large gatherings and the increase of the sub-variant XBB.1.16.

Covid-19 vaccination

In Vietnam, the possibility of an increase in Covid-19 cases in the coming time due to people traveling during the April 30 and May 1 holidays cannot be ruled out, but there may not be an increase in severe cases due to variants of the Covid-19 virus.

The Ministry of Health stated that the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 has appeared since 2023, has the ability to spread rapidly but there is no evidence of causing more serious symptoms and WHO currently has no new warning for Covid-19 globally.

To proactively prevent Covid-19, the Ministry of Health continues to recommend that people take the following measures:

1. Wear a mask in public places, on public transport, and at medical facilities.

2. Limit gathering in crowded places (if not necessary).

3. Wash your hands frequently with clean water, soap or antiseptic solution.

4. Increase physical activity, physical training, and proper nutrition.

5. If you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you must immediately go to the nearest medical facility for examination, monitoring, and timely treatment...

People coming to and returning from countries with high numbers of Covid-19 cases need to proactively monitor their health status to prevent and combat Covid-19 for themselves, their families and those around them.
