This is considered a significant milestone, reflecting the strong progress of Vietnamese women's clubs in recent years and creating a considerable advantage for Vietnamese representatives at continental tournaments in the 2027-2028 season.
According to the latest AFC rankings, Vietnamese women's club football has a total of 68,522 points. Of these, the performance of the clubs contributed 44,750 points, accounting for the largest proportion at 70%, while the Vietnamese women's national team brought in 23,772 points based on the FIFA Women's World Rankings.
The outstanding performance of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in the AFC Women's Champions League 2025–2026 is considered a crucial factor in helping Vietnamese women's football advance in the rankings. The Vietnamese team's active participation and impressive performance on the continental stage have brought significant points to the AFC ranking system.
This ranking is particularly important because it will serve as the basis for the AFC to determine the number of qualifying spots and seedings in the qualifying and group stages of the Asian Women's Club Football Championships for the 2027-2028 season.
Being among the top 6 strongest women's club football nations in Asia shows that Vietnamese women's football is gradually closing the gap with the leading powers in the region.
Leading the rankings is Australia, with a significant contribution from Melbourne City FC Women. The Australian representative reached the Champions League semi-finals after an impressive group stage campaign with 17 goals scored and no goals conceded.
Meanwhile, Japan finished second thanks to Tokyo Verdy Beleza's runner-up achievement, while South Korea came in third with Suwon FC making the mark.
Most notably, North Korean women's football has made significant progress. Naegohyang FC's Champions League victory has propelled the country's women's football to fifth place in Asia.
According to the AFC, the points system is based on the performance of clubs in the Champions League combined with points from the FIFA Women's World Ranking of the national team.
Maintaining a top position in the continent not only gives Vietnamese women's clubs an advantage when participating in international competitions but also demonstrates the effectiveness of long-term investment in professionalizing women's football.
This is considered an important foundation for Vietnamese women's football to continue aiming for bigger goals, both at the club and national team levels in the future.
