STANDARD SCORES FOR BLOCK A AT MID-TOP SCHOOLS DECREASE BY 2-3 POINTS
Analysis of the score spectrum of the A00, A01, D07 groups (hereinafter referred to as group A scores) shows that the benchmark scores of the above groups of majors and schools will basically be similar to previous years, but the benchmark scores of the middle groups of majors and schools will decrease significantly.
Based on the exam score data of the Ministry of Education and Training, the expert team of Thanh Nien Newspaper continued to analyze the score distribution according to the admission combinations, focusing on the combinations A00 (math, physics, chemistry), A01 (math, physics, English), D07 (math, chemistry, English). These are the A group combinations, not only used by all schools in the fields of engineering, technology, science... but also favored by schools training in the fields of economics - business, law, and even many other fields of social sciences - humanities.

For several years now, university admissions have been conducted entirely on the general admission support system of the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates only need to register for the school's major and training program, without having to register to choose the admission method or admission combination. The system will use, arrange and select the best data of the candidate provided in the database to consider admission to the highest possible wish. For the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, each candidate can have several admission combinations, but only 1 highest combination. Therefore, we take the candidate's highest combination to eliminate duplication in the admission source when comparing the score distribution of the years.

Returning to the story of comparing the above A block combinations this year with last year, we see that the recruitment source has decreased significantly (20%) if calculated from the 15-point mark. Last year, there were 334,287 candidates reaching this threshold, this year it is 266,560 students. The higher the mark, the further the gap between this year's recruitment source is from last year. For example, at the 17-point mark, last year nearly 316,000 students reached, this year only over 218,000, a difference of 31%. At the 20-point mark, this year's recruitment source is only nearly half of last year's (132,668 and 256,967). The deepest decrease in recruitment sources is at the 23.25 and 23.5-point marks, this year's recruitment source is only 40% of last year's recruitment source (55,771 vs. 138,211; 51,261 vs. 126,665). Note, this is the score that last year TS failed most of the middle-ranking majors.
After this milestone, the gap between this year's recruitment sources gradually inched closer to last year's until it reached nearly 27 points. To have the same recruitment sources for 2 years, the corresponding scores for the 2 years would be: 20 - 23.25; 21 - 24; 22 - 24.5; 23 - 25; 24 - 25.5; 25 - 26; 26 - 26.25 (the number in front is this year's benchmark, the number in the back is the benchmark for 2024).
BLOCK A STANDARD SCORES WILL BE DEEPLY DIFFERENTIATE
However, from the 26.75 point mark, the number of students recruited this year and last year began to be similar (9,547 students passed this year; 9,962 students passed last year). Even from the 27 point mark and above, this year's number of students has surpassed. The higher the score mark, the more abundant this year's number of students recruited. At the 27.5 point mark, this year's number of students is 1.6 times higher than last year's (4,751 compared to 2,991). The 28 point mark this year is 2,571, last year it was only 1,031. The 29 point mark this year is 376, last year it was 43 (8.7 times higher). This is a sign of fierce competition between the top majors/schools.
Last year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology had 16 out of 64 majors with a benchmark score of 27 or higher. Hanoi University of Technology - Vietnam National University had 5 majors with a benchmark score of approximately 27. All majors of Foreign Trade University (in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) also had a benchmark score of over 27. National Economics University also had a series of majors with a benchmark score of over 27... For these majors, it is unlikely that this year's benchmark score will be lower than last year. It is more likely that it will be higher.
Yesterday (July 18), Hanoi University of Science and Technology also predicted the admission score. This prediction is based on the score distribution and admission data of previous years, to help students have more reference channels to register for admission to their favorite majors at this university. Of which, the 2 majors with the highest predicted scores will have a minimum admission score of 27.8 (IT1 and IT-E10). Last year, the admission scores of these 2 majors were 28.53 and 28.22. In addition, there are 6 other majors whose admission scores are predicted to reach 28 (in the range of 26.5 - 28). These are also majors with admission scores above 27 last year. This prediction also reflects the fact that majors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology with admission scores above 27 last year will hardly be lower this year.

TOP UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE IS TOO NARROW FOR D01
D01 (math, literature, English) is the most popular admission combination, used by most universities. Therefore, we considered D01 data in general correlation with basic combinations such as A00, A01, D07. When including D01 recruitment source data into these combinations, we also noticed the same rule: this year's recruitment source is very small in the low score ranges, but from the score mark of 27.75 and above, this year's recruitment source increased significantly compared to last year.
However, if the D01 combination is separated, the recruitment source is especially low compared to last year. The higher the score, the lower it is. Thus, if there is no difference in scores, for majors that use the same combination of A00, A01, D01 for admission, the chance of admission for D01 candidates is very low. For majors that use a benchmark score of 26 points or more, the admission rate of candidates with the D01 combination is very low, 4,871 (D01)/29,846 (A00, A01, D01, D07). At 27 points (last year's benchmark score for the D01 combination of the Law major at the Foreign Trade University), the whole country only has 236 D01 candidates, while A00, A01, D01, D07 are 7,826.

If we consider the relationship with the C00 group, it will be more difficult for the D01 group to pass the university entrance exam if the standard score mechanism is equal.
Due to the graduation exam policy of the 2018 General Education Program (each candidate only takes 4 subjects, instead of 6 subjects as before), the number of candidates for the C00 group has also decreased significantly, similar to all other groups. However, this is the group (literature, history, geography) in the group (literature, math, history, geography) with the most candidates among the 36 graduation exam groups. There are 293,030 candidates taking this group, 1.8 times more than the second most popular group (math, literature, physics, chemistry, with 160,500 candidates).
However, few schools and few majors use the C00 combination for admission, the number of attractive majors is also very small and only concentrated in a few large schools, so this is definitely the TS combination that has to compete most fiercely in the admission race. In addition, the C00 combination score range is usually the highest. Therefore, in previous years, the highest standard scores were all for the C00 combination. Many majors and many schools reached around 29 points, and some majors even had standard scores that almost hit the ceiling.

This year, if we consider only the C00 combination, the situation is similar to the above. From 20 points or more, the whole country has more than 147,000 students, meeting almost all the targets of the groups of majors that recruit the C00 combination (humanities, social sciences - behavior, education, journalism ...), while these groups also recruit many other combinations. With the same score, D01 only has 109,524 students (while D01 is a popular combination, used by most universities). At 22 points, C00 has twice as many candidates as D01, twice as many as C03 (math, literature, history), twice as many as A00, and three times as many as A01.
If there is no difference in scores, if a major considers many combinations (including combination C00), with a standard score of 25, most of the admitted candidates will come from combination C00. Here are the numbers of sources of admission with this score in the combinations: C00 - 35,055; D01 - 4,871; C03 - 3,366; C04 - 4,306.
