Son Qui Ward: Exploiting advantages, promoting socio-economic development

LOTS OF POTENTIAL

According to the Son Qui Ward Party Committee, on June 16, 2025, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued Resolution 1663/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Dong Thap province in 2025. Son Qui Ward was established on the basis of merging Long Hung Ward, Tan Trung Commune and Binh Dong Commune. Son Qui Ward has a natural area of 48.96 km2 and a population of 46,507 people. This is a premise for the ward to continue to grow strongly, developing towards a civilized, modern and sustainable urban area.

Currently, Son Qui ward has many companies and manufacturing enterprises with large investments in scale and productivity.

According to Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Son Qui Ward Gian Ba Huynh, the name Son Qui Ward was chosen due to the historical, traditional and cultural characteristics of the area. Accordingly, Son Qui mound means Turtle Mound (Qui Nguyen), the ancestral home of Queen Mother Tu Du.

In the mid-18th century, Mr. Pham Dang Long followed his father to the Go Cong region, which was still wild. Being a Confucian scholar, well-versed in feng shui and geography, he traveled to many places to find good land to settle down, hoping that his descendants would develop and prosper.

When he arrived at Go Rua, he saw that the land here was very beautiful and had a fresh water well, while fresh water wells were rare in the entire Go Cong area. Therefore, he gathered the graves of three generations here and built a house on this mound. Mr. Pham Dang Long married Mrs. Phan Thi Tanh and gave birth to Pham Dang Hung, who later became a great mandarin of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Pham Dang Hung was the father of Mrs. Pham Thi Hang (Tu Du), the queen consort of King Thieu Tri, the queen mother of King Tu Duc. Because it was the king's maternal hometown, King Tu Duc changed the word Qui Nguyen to Son Qui, meaning Turtle Hill to Turtle Mountain, meaning to be as strong as a mountain. Besides, this place is related to the uprising led by Truong Dinh. Here, he built ramparts forming an arc to protect Son Qui mound.

According to comrade Gian Ba Huynh, Son Qui ward is located on the southwestern economic corridor of Ho Chi Minh City, the gateway of Dong Thap province connecting Tay Ninh province and Ho Chi Minh City to the East via My Loi bridge. Son Qui ward has National Highway 50 passing through and is located in the area planned to connect the national coastal route... suitable for developing logistics, trading goods, and transportation services. With a total population after the merger of up to 46,507 people, this creates a rich labor force.

This is also a favorable condition for the development of service industries, small-scale industries and cooperative economy. At the same time, it creates potential for developing domestic markets for consumption, trade and production activities.

After the merger, Son Qui ward has an agricultural production area of 3,789 hectares, of which 1,786 hectares of rice land are planned for high-yield, high-quality rice growing areas, developing high-tech agricultural models, and areas specializing in key crops. The ward takes advantage of the urbanization process to increase land use value, creating favorable conditions for investors to form projects, residential areas, and eco-tourism and resort complexes.

In the industrial sector, Son Qui ward currently has many companies and manufacturing enterprises with large investments in scale and productivity such as: Viet Long Hung Garment Joint Stock Company, Vina Proud Toy Company Limited, Newshoes Tien Giang Company Limited, Hung Phat Fruit Production Company - Andros Group... which have created jobs for thousands of local workers and neighboring communes and wards.

Comrade Gian Ba Huynh said: “Currently, Son Qui ward is focusing on implementing compensation, support and resettlement for the Binh Dong Industrial Park Project with a scale of 210.05 hectares. When the industrial park is formed, it will attract many investors from within and outside the province to the locality. Local people will have many job opportunities, especially jobs for highly skilled workers and laborers.

Son Qui Ward has many unique traditional cultural features, especially in the area where the National Monument of the Royal Tomb will be invested in and expanded; then it will attract and develop tourism in the coming time.

FOCUS ON EXPLOITING ADVANTAGES

According to comrade Gian Ba Huynh, based on the province's planning, Son Qui ward will review and adjust land use planning, urban planning, and construction planning to be suitable and synchronous. At the same time, focus on investing in infrastructure, promoting public investment, expanding traffic infrastructure to ensure meeting development and investment requirements; upgrading educational facilities, and building schools that meet national standards.

In the coming time, Son Qui ward will focus on speeding up the progress of compensation, support and resettlement of Binh Dong Industrial Park Project and Binh Dong Resettlement Area.

In the immediate future, the ward will focus on accelerating the progress of compensation, support, and resettlement for the Binh Dong Industrial Park Project and Binh Dong Resettlement Area. One of the important contents is to step up investment promotion for projects such as: My Loi Industrial Cluster, Long Hung Urban Area, Go Cong Central Urban Area, Binh Dong Residential Area, etc.

At the same time, build a list of projects calling for investment in a feasible direction in terms of land and infrastructure based on the resources, strengths and development goals of the locality.

Son Qui Ward will focus on reviewing plans and continuing to organize and implement the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021 - 2025. On that basis, the ward will review, adjust and supplement the annual public investment plan; continue to proactively implement economic development projects, especially important projects associated with regional development and regional linkage.

One of the important orientations is to exploit advantages to attract investment in developing diverse trade and services associated with the development of industrial parks, clusters, urban areas and traditional markets. The ward will continue to implement the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" to contribute to supporting the implementation of productivity increase, production cost reduction and value chain formation in the rice industry.

Comrade Gian Ba Huynh added: “In addition to the above orientations, in the coming time, the ward will continue to simplify administrative procedures, reduce barriers and increase transparency in handling administrative procedures for people and businesses.

At the same time, increase meetings with people and businesses, and contact PAPI to create satisfaction for people and businesses in implementing the two-level government apparatus. Along with that, strengthen vocational training, provide high-quality human resources; promote technology application, innovation; promptly resolve or propose solutions to difficulties for businesses.
