BYD is no longer the king of electric vehicle batteries.

The landscape of the electric vehicle battery production race in China has changed, with BYD no longer the market leader.

The latest data released by Kerui on the battery market in April reveals a fiercely competitive landscape, with CATL continuing to solidify its absolute leading position with 47.0% of the national market share, while BYD's FinDreams lags far behind in second place.

Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD and battery company FinDreams have lost their leading position in the energy race, achieving an installed capacity of only 11,133 MWh in April, accounting for 18.3% of the market share and recording a slight decrease of 3.2% compared to the same period last year.

According to CarnewsChina , FinDreams remains heavily reliant on its internal ecosystem, with up to 58% of its battery production focused solely on supplying its parent brand, BYD.

The remaining market share is divided among several other brands, including Xiaomi with 7.5%, Fang Cheng Bao with 7.0%, Xpeng with 5.3%, and Denza with 5.1%.

In contrast to BYD's slowdown, CATL Group demonstrated its market dominance with installed capacity reaching 28,694 MWh in April, a 30.2% increase year-on-year.

This giant's customer base boasts exceptional diversity, encompassing most major automakers in the country of over a billion people, including Geely (9.5%), Changan (8.9%), Xiaomi (8.5%), Li Auto (8.3%), and Nio (6.6%) of the company's total assembly output.

The next positions in the top 5 producers are held by CALB with 5,198 MWh, Gotion High-tech with 3,705 MWh, and EVE Energy with 2,550 MWh.

These battery companies are showing strong growth with year-on-year growth rates of 50.1%, 25.2%, and 27.2%, respectively.

Market analysis data shows that Xiaomi is FinDreams' largest battery customer outside of BYD's internal system. Meanwhile, Leapmotor is becoming the largest consumer partner for all three battery manufacturers: Gotion, Zenergy, and Svolt.

Although Leapmotor's high-end D19 and upcoming D99 models use batteries supplied by CATL, the brand is not yet considered a major customer of CATL.

The distribution landscape also revealed a surprising point: Great Wall Motor Corporation is not actually Svolt's largest customer, even though it is a battery subsidiary company they founded.
