According to the preliminary report on the results of the 2025 rural and agricultural census, as of July 1, 2025, after implementing the policy of reorganizing administrative units and local government at two levels, the whole country will have 2,634 communes and special zones and 63,619 villages (after the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in 2025, the whole country will have 3,321 commune-level administrative units, including 2,621 communes, 687 wards and 13 special zones).
