Recently, the Vietnam Festival 2023 took place for the first time in Osaka and Tokyo. As one of two Vietnamese artists performing at the festival, Grey D scored points with his catchy music, youthful style, and ability to master the stage. Returning home, the singer is still filled with emotions from the music nights.

Grey D's real name is Doan The Lan, a former member of the Monstar band. Born in 2000, he is considered a promising young artist who can sing, compose, and play musical instruments. Before the Vietnam Festival 2023, Grey D had a memorable 2022 when he appeared as an independent singer with the Debut 4D Music Experience project - the first 4D music space experience in Vietnam, releasing an album composed by himself.

In addition, he also participated in the music project Summer Scent with Hoang Dung, Orange, Suni Ha Linh. Recently, he also participated in supporting the music night Summer Sunshine (by singer - musician Vo Viet Phuong), a music project to raise money to send to the poor and students in the highlands.

From Doan The Lan of The Voice Kids 2014, Sing My Song 2016, 5 years of activity in the group Monstar, 2 years of military service, to the current Grey D is not a short journey. When returning to the Vietnamese music scene after 2 years of military service, witnessing the emergence of many generations of young singers with diverse musical styles, Grey D felt a bit "uneasy".

“I think I need to change and improve myself every day, both in life and in my career. The discipline in the army has trained me to become better and more persistent. That period of time also made me look back at my family a lot. When there is pressure, there will be effort. Confidence must come from what I have and what I can do, aiming for prospects, not unrealistic expectations,” Grey D shared.

Grey D said he was lucky to be born in the 4.0 era and the young generation like him had the opportunity to be exposed to many things. Among countless choices, he chose according to his inner core, chose emotions.

“During my time in the army, I composed quite a lot. The songs I recently released were composed during that time. Now, I don’t feel pressured because every young artist has their own color, and so do I. I have to be confident in my own musical color and my own journey. Seeing pressure as a lever, I devote my energy to creativity, bringing different products to the audience,” he added.

He said: “Although I have experienced some down moments on my musical journey, I feel lucky because my family, friends, and loving audience have always supported me. Music is a friend who is always by my side in many situations, both happy and sad. That is the motivation for me to have confidence and strive to continue this artistic journey.”
