Drama, circus, puppetry, programs and events leading up to International Children's Day June 1 and summer 2023 promise to bring lots of joy to young audiences.
Nurturing children's souls from the theater stage
Kicking off the 2023 “welcome summer” programs, the Youth Theater will launch special plays and attractive artistic activities for children of all ages within the framework of the “Love Summer 2023” project. Accordingly, “Love Summer 2023” will present two plays: “Bom’s Dream” and “The Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly”.

The musical “The Dream of Bom” by author Thien An, directed by Meritorious Artist Anh Tuyet. Borrowing the folk tale “Thang Bom”, the musical “The Dream of Bom” tells the story of a poor but studious boy named Bom, who was exploited and bullied by a scheming rich man. With his kind heart and the help of good friends, Bom made the rich man learn a worthy lesson for his greed and evilness. The play “The Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly” directed by Dao Duy Anh. The play is adapted from the novel “The Story of the Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly” - a world-famous children's literary masterpiece by Chilean writer Luis Sepulveda, loved by many Vietnamese children. The play aims to bring the audience the opportunity to admire the beauty of the funny and lovely characters stepping out of the pages of the book, appearing on stage for the first time in a lively and intimate way. Meritorious Artist Si Tien, Director of the Youth Theater, shared that the children's plays are performed by the Theater with the desire to convey ancient literary values and folk paintings to young audiences, especially children. Therefore, the artists of the Theater have actively practiced and have many special creations in music to help the play have many different sounds and images to stimulate children's imagination... The round stage of the Central Circus (Vietnam Circus Federation, Hanoi) is also filled with magical scenes in Vietnamese fairy tales with the children's circus version of "Tam Cam 2023". The program promises to satisfy young audiences with funny circus animals and magic, and the flying dances of circus artists are symbolized in the characters that create the climax of the play. Vietnam Puppetry Theatre also introduced the puppet show “Fairy World” combining dry and water puppetry into the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In Ho Chi Minh City, this summer, Truong Hung Minh stage of Minh Nhi and Viet Huong decided to “attack” the children’s theater stage with a series of “Fairy Tales” programs. In which, the play “The Secret of a Hundred Bamboo Joints” gathered many famous names such as Minh Nhi, Viet Huong, Huynh Lap, Dai Nghia, Hoang Map, Mac Van Khoa, Hua Minh Dat... performed up to 17 shows, starting from June 1.
Lively activities of "Children's Day"
As usual, " World Children's Day 2023" continues to be held at the Vietnam Exhibition Center for Culture and Arts (Hanoi). Accordingly, along with the award ceremony of the 2023 National Children's Painting Competition and Exhibition, many attractive art activities will attract children from May 31 to June 4.
The "Children's World" festival always takes place with many cultural, artistic, fun and experiential activities for children.
At the event, the Organizing Committee introduced 401 paintings, selected from 38,125 entries by children at 515 schools, children's cultural houses, and art centers nationwide to participate in this year's National Children's Painting Contest. Within the framework of the Festival, there were also a series of experiential activities with many attractive contents, such as: Learning and participating in experiencing popular sports; interacting with coaches and athletes who have achieved many national and international achievements. Besides, there was the program "Childhood World with Books" displaying and introducing good books; interacting with author Pham Xuan Anh - a poet for children; creative art check-in space, Gala "Voi ha", dance competition, sports dance, zumba party, talented child model competition... In Ho Chi Minh City, the Children's Festival (Kids Fest) in 2023 will be held for the first time (expected to take place from June 2 to 4) at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's House. Activities include workshops on skillful and creative skills such as making mosaic paintings, making and decorating pottery. Children can also participate in the summer camp in the heart of the city "Cho con khon lon", watch movies, and experience a digital technology playground. The playground exhibits models and images of vehicles using AI technology, allowing children to experience virtual reality glasses and ChatGPT technology. The festival also organizes the program "Happy summer". This is an activity to care for 350 children in especially difficult circumstances such as children with disabilities, children at shelters and children affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Museums that attract children such as the Vietnam Museum of Nature and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology have activities to celebrate International Children's Day on June 1 and summer 2023. In particular, the Vietnam Museum of Nature organizes a painting contest "Vietnam's Natural Heritage" for children aged 6-15; the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology organizes programs to learn about the culture of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups, explore folk medicine knowledge in the medicinal herb garden, etc.
