Within the framework of Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation (ACMECS), this is the second event of a series of seminars under the project "Promoting the role of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad in supporting small and medium enterprises (Vietnamese SMEs) to recover and integrate into the international economy" proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and sponsored by the Government of Japan.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Director of the Project Management Board, Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the series of seminars held in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hanoi aimed to support Vietnamese SMEs to effectively and substantially participate in the international market through the role of connection, companionship and support of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.
At the workshop, Vietnamese SMEs in the Central region had direct and online discussions with Vietnamese representative agencies in the continents and representatives of some localities about the current situation, difficulties, and needs for support when accessing and participating in international markets; and grasping international cooperation opportunities to be able to step out into the big sea.
This is also an opportunity for the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to better understand practical needs; receive proposals and recommendations from associations and businesses.
Thereby serving to build measures to enhance support for Vietnamese SMEs to access information, connect with partners, expand and diversify export markets, contribute to economic recovery and connect supply chains after Covid-19, and strengthen international economic integration.
The event also aims to enhance the proactive, direct and comprehensive participation of representative agencies in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to develop their potential and take advantage of overseas opportunities to promote the recovery process and effectively participate in international markets.

According to Mr. Pham Bac Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam SME Association in Da Nang City, Head of the Representative Office of the Vietnam SME Association in the Central region, Vietnamese SME enterprises play an irreplaceable role in creating jobs, economic growth and contributing to social development.
Nowadays, international economic integration is not only a trend but also an essential factor promoting sustainable and comprehensive development of each country. However, Vietnamese SMEs are facing great challenges in the process of international economic integration.
Therefore, this is an important time for Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to promote their role in accompanying, supporting and protecting Vietnamese SMEs.
“Accompanying and supporting Vietnamese SMEs is the duty and responsibility of diplomatic missions in the context of international economic integration. We need to cooperate and develop a synchronous support ecosystem, creating conditions for Vietnamese SMEs to confidently and strongly step out into the “big sea”, create new breakthroughs, accelerate the development of the Vietnamese economy to have a worthy position on the global economic map”, said Mr. Pham Bac Binh.
Through a survey of the difficulties and challenges that Vietnamese SMEs are facing, Ms. Tran Binh Minh, Deputy Head of the Department of Industry and Sector Economic Research (Central Institute for Economic Management) recommended that Vietnamese representative agencies abroad promote connections between trade promotion enterprises; improve information and consulting systems; provide legal support on regulations, compliance and taxes in foreign markets for Vietnamese SMEs.
