Amidst the tightening of funding for research in many Western countries, as well as rising geopolitical tensions around the world, Hong Kong authorities have quickly adopted a policy to attract international scholars to the city.
Hong Kong's (China) initial successes in attracting talent are attracting analytical attention from many other countries.

An example of this success is the case of Professor Gao Yang, an expert in the fields of robotics and aerospace, who decided to leave King's College London (UK) to join the teaching staff at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in May this year.
Ms. Gao Yang is currently appointed as the director of the AI Robotics Center and the Institute of Space Science and Technology of HKUST.
Sharing about her decision to work at HKUST, Ms. Gao Yang said: “The teaching and research environment in Hong Kong (China) currently gives me a sense of stability. I have also received commitments on large-scale investment in the field I am pursuing.”

Ms. Gao Yang spent 10 years studying in Singapore and 20 years teaching in the UK. Ms. Gao said she was convinced by the clear strategic direction of the Hong Kong authorities (China) in developing world- class science and technology to promote long-term growth.
HKUST representatives also said that since launching the global recruitment campaign starting in October 2022, the school has welcomed more than 100 scholars from many countries such as the US, Germany, France, Korea, Singapore... The school aims to recruit 100 more scholars.
At the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), more than 150 scholars from 15 countries and regions have been recruited since 2023.
Education officials in Hong Kong (China) also revealed that many famous professors from universities in the US and some other Western countries are also in the process of arranging to soon move to Hong Kong to teach and research in the near future.
