Schools focus on overcoming consequences after floods

During the recent floods caused by the circulation of Storm No. 10, many educational institutions and schools in the province suffered heavy damage. However, with the timely support of authorities at all levels and mutual solidarity, officials and teachers of the provincial Education sector joined hands to support schools in flood-affected areas to overcome the damage and welcome students back to school soon.

Heavy damage

During the recent floods, many schools in the province suffered heavy property damage, many objects and equipment were flooded such as: Hoa Sen Kindergarten, Minh Khai Primary School, Quang Trung Primary School, Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Ha Giang Ward 1 and Ha Giang Ward 2... were severely affected, facilities were damaged, trees were broken, schoolyards and classrooms were flooded with mud...

Teacher Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet, Principal of Quang Trung Primary School, Ha Giang 2 Ward, said: “Most of the equipment on the first floor was completely damaged, and mud was deep in the classrooms and school grounds. In the past few days, the school has received active support from all levels, sectors, and forces in cleaning and sanitizing the school, trying to welcome students back to school as soon as possible.”

At Thuan Hoa Primary Boarding School B, Vi Xuyen Commune, textbooks and notebooks of students were completely damaged, library equipment and supplies were 100% damaged. Along with that, almost all of the physical facilities and teaching equipment, all school supplies such as: TV, tables and chairs, blackboard, kitchen, student beds... were also severely damaged.

According to information from the Department of Education and Training, in the recent flood, 43 schools were affected (1 school had 1 student drowned at home), 42 schools suffered damage to facilities , total damage of about 10 billion VND; the number of schools that had to let students stay home was 462, the total number of students staying home was 212,763.

Join hands to overcome the consequences of floods

In order to promptly overcome the damage caused by floods, in recent days, provincial leaders, leaders of departments, branches and localities have inspected, closely followed the situation and immediately deployed solutions to overcome the consequences, in which the direction and deployment of forces to support schools has received special attention. Thereby, helping schools gradually overcome the damage to soon welcome students back to school after the floods.

In the spirit of "mutual love", the Department of Education and Training of Tuyen Quang province has organized meaningful and timely activities to support schools that suffered heavy damage due to the impact of Storm No. 10.

On October 4 and 5, leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Tuyen Quang, together with officials and civil servants of the Department's departments and more than 200 officials and teachers of 14 schools in localities less affected by storm No. 10 visited, encouraged, gave gifts and supported sanitation and cleaning at a number of schools heavily affected by floods in Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2 wards.

Comrade Vu Dinh Hung, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: “After the flood, the top priority is to help educational institutions clean up mud and overcome the consequences of the flood so that students can return to school soon. In particular, the provincial education sector has mobilized forces to focus on providing immediate support to schools that suffered heavy damage. With the spirit of "mutual love", the provincial education sector is united and unanimous to overcome the consequences of the damage caused by the flood, but also hopes to receive timely attention and support from all levels, sectors and benefactors so that schools can soon stabilize and ensure conditions for teaching and learning to return.”

With a proactive spirit, schools with minor damage have proactively overcome the consequences and quickly stabilized their organization. For schools with major damage (total damage over 100 million/school), the Education Department has compiled a proposal for the province to consider supporting the recovery in the coming time. According to the plan, on October 6, most schools will organize for students to return to normal school (except for schools with heavy damage to facilities that are making efforts to repair).

With solidarity and efforts to overcome difficulties, the Education sector of Tuyen Quang province is focusing on overcoming the damage caused by floods. At the same time, it continues to effectively implement solutions to improve the quality of education, contributing to the completion of tasks and goals in the 2025-2026 school year.
