The motion graphic video Nostalgia was inspired by the desire to understand his father. The work revolves around his personal feelings of nostalgia, abandonment, and more broadly, destruction and decay. These are also emotions that are closely linked to the themes that run through the Finnish artist's artistic practice.

The art video "Departure" is an image of a tree in the rain expressing the feelings of the person staying behind when it is time to part.

The installation Black Engine uses video projection combined with LED lights projected onto the installation structure to express the artist's view of evil and the tensions of the times.

The work is arranged in a dark space, evoking abstract vision for the viewer to create a multi-dimensional inspiration about evil on an invisible plane.

"I am the son of a sea captain. When I was young, my father was almost always at sea. Therefore, I did not have many opportunities to understand him. Later, when my father stopped going to sea and returned home, he suddenly suffered from dementia and could no longer speak. My father passed away when I was 26 years old. Only later did I realize that his passing had a profound impact on my life. This experience influenced my artistic practice in choosing themes, often about the fear of loss, longing, and longing," Jaakko shared when asked about his inspiration for his works.

As someone interested in modern art, Mr. Pham Viet Hung (Tay Ho District, Hanoi ) commented that the works of Finnish artist Jaakko Niemelä have touched the emotions of viewers.

"I especially like the paintings here. The soft strokes in the way the artist chose to convey help me feel more connected to the loss of my father's memory when he suffered from dementia," said Mr. Hung.

The exhibition "Decomposition Model" by Finnish artist Jaakko Niemelä takes place from November 23 to December 7, 2024 at the APD Center for Art Protection and Development, No. 1 Luong Yen (Bach Dang Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi).
