On July 2, the Cambodian Anti-Drug Police Department (ADP) said that in the first six months of this year, the country's authorities arrested 9,034 drug-related suspects, including 167 foreigners.
According to ADP, about 52% of the suspects are drug producers, traders, transporters and possessors, while the rest are drug users.
During the raids, Cambodian authorities also discovered and seized about 326kg of chemicals used to produce drugs, 12 homemade rifles, 26 pistols, 99 cars, 1,025 motorbikes, 3,195 phones and a quantity of cash.
The drugs seized included heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, cathinone and ketamine.
Earlier this week, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said drug trafficking continues to pose a threat to security, public order and development in the Southeast Asian country.
Cambodia does not have the death penalty for drug trafficking. Under the country’s law, those convicted of trafficking more than 80 grams of drugs can be sentenced to life in prison./.
